Vehicle Detail
Up for sale, a 1988 BMW M5 (WBSDC9303J2791812). I purchased the vehicle is April of 2007 with 152,689 miles. A compression test performed by Bavarian Autohaus in Norman, OK in April 2007 showed #1: 140, #2: 140, #3: 130, #4: 140, #5: 140, #6: 140. The current odometer reading is 154,402 miles (odometer gear needs to be replaced so I would add approximately 10K to mileage). The drive shaft and guibo were replaced (I believe in 2008, still searching for receipt) by Mike’s Auto-Haus in Tulsa, OK. The vehicle developed a SLS leak and has been garaged the last 2.5 years. The vehicle is not a garage queen by any means. Exterior is fair. There is a rust spot at the bottom of the driver side front fender (I believe this to be a replacement fender, no vin sticker). Front air-dam is in need of repair or replacement. Rear window needs new filler strips around glass. There is a cracked lens in the rear driver’s side tail light. Paint is in fair condition. Interior: Dash has multiple cracks (looks as if a dash cap had been installed at some point). OBC light is in need of replacement (very faint on a good day). Sunroof does not work in all directions (rear will lift, but sunroof does not slide back). I have a replacement sunroof motor from a 1988 535i that will go with the car. There is also a tear in the sunroof headliner. The front seats are worn and cracking. The rear seat has a tear in the seat. The rear seat from the 535i is included. The trunk tool kit is incomplete. A new battery was installed last month. A Wolf Automotive car cover is included. The car starts and idles without a problem. I did search for replacement SLS hoses but never did locate any. The vehicle will need to be trailered due to the SLS issue. I’ve outlined the issues I have noticed with the vehicle, but I don’t want to make sound like a parts car either. There are some records from myself and the previous owner but not enough to be considered well documented. When I purchased the M5, I thought it would be one of those forever purchases. The reality is that I have neither the time nor funds to make this vehicle what it deserves to be. I would rather it go to an enthusiast than just sit in the garage. I’ll answer your questions as best I can. Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. Thanks!
