Vehicle Detail

1969 Triumph Trophy Frame no. EC18856 Engine no. 75B6JX International Six Days Trial successes in the late 1940s prompted Triumph to adopt the 'Trophy' name for their off-road-styled twins, at first for the 500cc TR5 and then for the 650cc TR6, introduced for 1956. The bigger Trophy retained its sporting character but became more of a roadster as time passed, ending up, in effect, as a single-carburetor T120 Bonneville. However, although the pair possessed an impeccable engine, Triumph's larger models were widely recognized as lacking in the handling department, especially when compared to rivals Norton. A lighter and smoother motorcycle, the 500cc Triumph Trophy is a bargain for the enthusiast with riding his investment in mind. Only slightly down in power from the bigger 650s, but in a lighter more nimble package, these are a blast to ride, and ride anywhere. This nicely presented example in English green shows well, having been completely restored from the ground up, by marque expert, Ken Armann of northern California, some years ago. The engine was treated to a full rebuild from the sludge traps up, gearbox was overhauled, including the clutch, and all cycle parts were gone through, including suspension, fresh brakes, rechromed rims laced with stainless steel spokes, etc. Cosmetically the bike is holding up very well indeed. There are very minor blemishes around the bike, conducive with age, but overall, the bike looks fantastic, and would take little to bring it back to its show quality presentation. Armann built the bike for a prominent and discerning collector, who enjoyed it for some years before selling to “thin the herd”. Since, it has changed hands twice with little use, but remains a meticulously cared for machine. It is accompanied by a file of service records and receipts.
