Vehicle Detail
1956 Ford Thunderbird $14,900 No Reserve! My father purchased this 1956 Ford T-Bird Convertible (I believe from the original owner) when he retired in 1999, but passed away a year later and never was able to do much with this car. I inherited it and have hung onto it for sentimental reasons mostly. I have only driven it a couple times and it has otherwise been stored. Due to the situation, I don't know much about this vehicle, but this is what I do know:It has an 8 cylinder, 292 engine. The odometer currently reads 18,648 in black, with a white 0 at the end. It has two tops~the removable hard top with the famous port hole windows, and the soft top which folds down and is in good condition except for a small tear (see photo). It has a continental kit on the back and two wheel skirts. I have been told by neighbors and car enthusiasts who have passed by and seen the car in my garage that it is a valuable car because it is in decent shape and most of it is factory original. I cannot guarantee this, however, since I know very little about cars. I am not sure if all or part of it has the original paint, but underneath the trunk lid, it does look like the rubber seal has been painted over. There are chips and bubbles in the paint in various places on the car, but I see no rust. I believe the interior is original and appears to be in good shape. There are no tears in the seats, no tears on the interior overhead lining ("ceiling") of the hard top, and the door panels are in good shape (there appears to be a small, L-shaped repair on the lower portion of the passenger side door). There is a radio/cassette that was installed at some point, and there is a cover on the steering wheel.About 7 or 8 years ago a new gas tank and new fuel lines were put in and the brakes were bled so it could be driven, and it hasn't been driven since. The brakes probably need to be bled again because the pedal goes to the floor. It has a transmission fluid leak, which I have been told is probably because the seals in the transmission have dried out because it hasn't been driven much. I remember finding in my father's papers years ago the original receipt for the car, however I have not been able to locate it. I'm not sure if this is important to a buyer, but if I can find it, it will be included. Payment/Shipping I require a $1000, non-refundable PayPal deposit from the winning bidder within 48 hours, and full payment by cashier's check (issued by a major bank) or cash within 7 days of purchase. Payment must clear before the car or title is released. Buyer is responsible for arranging shipping and for all shipping costs. Please feel free contact me if you would like more photos or if you have any questions. Thank you. On May-27-11 at 12:17:33 PDT, seller added the following information: Addendum to Original Listing I have had some questions from potential buyers, and since I know very little about cars, this feedback has led me to further information about this car that I would like to provide in this listing. I stated that there were no tears in the seat, however I did find two small tears on the side of the driver's seat, and one repaired tear on the seat of the driver (which had been covered by the seat belt and so I missed it). I will e-mail you photos of these upon request. There is also small dent on top/in front of the hood to the right of the t-bird emblem (as you can see in photo currently in listing). There is also a small dent in the rear bumper. I see no evidence of it being in an accident. A buyer asked for a photo of the data plate on the firewall inside the engine compartment. When I found it I discovered it was painted over, so it appears the car has been painted. If you would like a photo of this plate, let me know and I will send it. I have had questions about the mechanics/engine of the car. No, I have not had it checked by a mechanic. The only knowledge I have of the car comes from my limited experience driving the car and from my ex-husband when he worked on the car after I inherited it. The information I put in the listing is all I know. I cannot guarantee anything about the mechanics/engine. The car is being sold as is. If you would like to have a mechanic come by and check it out, or if you would like to yourself, don't hesitate to let me know. Another buyer asked if I was sure if it is a 292 engine. That is what my ex-husband determined at the time I inherited it, based on his basic knowledge of cars and input from his friends who are car enthusiasts. I cannot guarantee it however. If you want more photos of the engine, please let me know. I have had others ask for photos of the underside of the car. I was not able to get the best photos since I have no way of elevating the car, but I am happy to send those to you as well. Thank you.
