Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a '68 AMC Javelin. Many more pictures at http://home.comcast.net/~onthedownside/Javelin/ This car is not original in any sense of the word. The only part that is really original is the body and I tried to keep it as stock looking as possible. The positives: The motor: 4 bolt main Chevy 350 small block Corvette. high compression pistons, .196 valves, Crane performance cam, custom built heaters by Warner Heaters in Carlsbad, CA external oil cooler and remote oil filter Electric radiator fans 4 core radiator electric fuel pump Carter carb. Dual Exhaust The air conditioning pump is not attached to anything. No hoses, no condenser in front of the radiator, no cooler in the car, no ducts in the car. I had intended to put AC, but never got around to it. I recommend pulling the pump off the motor. Clutch: Borg & Beck dual plate 10" Transmission: Munci rock crusher with wide ratio gears. Hurst Shifter Rear end: Ford posi 9 inch 2.73:1 ratio. Traction bars. Wheels & Tires: Front: 165-50R14 Radial T/A Rear: 195-50R14 Radial T/A Brakes: Front: 4 piston disks from a Granada Rear: single piston disks from a Lincoln Continental. Body: Chevy Camero high back buckets S.E.V.Marchall Ampelux headlamps with 100 watt high beam. Pretty much all wiring has been replaced and is custom. I have all schematics. When I added shoulder harness, I couldn't reach the dash and wiggle the knobs so I put all controls on the switch panel behind the shifter. These include: Parking lights, Head lights, Washer pump, Wipers (2 speed), Radiator fan, Driving/fog lights (non existent but wired), Heater duct open, Heater on/off, Fuel pump, Back-up lights, Def Duct, Heater fan, Left map light, Dome light (on/off/auto), Radio, Right map light. Rather then use relays for all the heavy current stuff, I used high current (35A) Transistors located behind the center dash console (see photo.) There weren’t enough fuses for my liking, so I added a few, also behind the gauges There is a small switch panel on the shifter that has left and right turn signals, Hi beam, and a push button for single shot wiper. The instrument cluster is custom, I have the original, but that didn't have a tach. All interior parts are there and in good condition. No power steering, No power brakes. The steering is easy unless you aren’t moving, the brakes are also easy without power. There is a lot of surface area due to the large 4 piston calipers. Electric wiper motor. The bumpers were straightened and re chromed when they painted it they did a great job and are in excellent condition today. The Negatives: There is some rust under the rear window in the 2 lower corners. It is the only rust on the car. There is a dent in front of the right front wheel. I had the car straightened and painted by a good body shop. (some 13 years ago) They took it down to the metal, and straightened everything. There is no Bondo anywhere. The day after I got it back from the body shop, someone backed into it giving it the front fender issue. There are some small areas where paint is chipped, near where corners of doors and hood meet, for example. Booth doors have no window glass, but I have the glass for the left side. There is a restriction in the fuel line in or very near the tank. Under full throttle, the carb runs out of gas after about 10 seconds. Otherwise the car runs just fine. The tank needs to be pulled to find the problem. Extras: I have a large box of parts that go along with the car. See photo. I have a book of 15 some pages of schematics. This car has been kept in a garage or under cover since the paint job nearly 15 years ago. It is in very sound condition. There is a lot of small nit picky things that need to be done with it to finish it, but all the major stuff is done. The motor is a low time, high performance rebuild from a reputable machine shop. As is the transmission and rear end. If someone were to spend a week, full time on it, 99% of what remains can be finished for very little money and this would be a great head turner at shows and driving around town. Be careful, it can go plenty fast enough to quickly get you into real trouble. Local pickup only, you get to arrange for any shipping needed.
