Vehicle Detail

When I first picked up this bike, I thought all I had to do was fix a flat tire—boy was I wrong! I took it to the mechanic who replaced tires, front and rear brake linings, hoses, battery, some electrical parts and cleaned out the carburetors. After spending a grand, I am being told that it also needs a “top end job.” At 1500, bucks parts and labor, on top of what I already have spent, this means my dream will have to become yours. I know little about this bike other than that it was made into a “street racer,” back in the late sixties, or early seventies; clues to this are the larger Honda gas tank, after market solo fiberglass seat, and upswept pipes to improve ground clearance and handling. A close look at the bike reveals some bolts that have been drilled for safety wire. The bike actually sports new looking, genuine, Honda Motors spark plugs, something that I have never even seen or heard of before. The mechanic that gave me an estimate said that the cam did not appear original, but I really can’t say what that means. In any case: the cam chain is Not installed in bike! The electrical system has been checked and is sound, the electric starter works, and it has a new points and condenser set. The headlight bulb was also replaced with new halogen sealed beam lamp. It has a new horn. There is light rust on the rims, and some metal parts, but overall the bike is very clean. There is a ding to the right side cover and there are some scratches down to the primer layer on the front fender. While it appears perfect for the bike, I cannot really figure out how the seat attaches to the frame. After its heyday of street racing sometime in the early seventies this bike was sent to the basement (in NYC) with a flat tire. There it sat until some 10 years ago when I unearthed it at an estate sale. Again it went back into storage, but now in my garage, for the past 10 years, while children were born, etc., and I just kept meaning to get to it. I only got it to a mechanic this Spring after my wife threatened to exile it to an outdoor shed for the winter. There is no title or paperwork with the bike. I will, of course, issue a Bill of Sale. Please do Not bid if this is an issue for you! I will truck bike to NYC, or 30 miles from 06877, for free. After that it will be 1.50 per mile up to 200 miles in Northeast, for longer distances you will need to use a professional shipper.
