Vehicle Detail
I am the original owner. As my Dad once said: "Never ever buy anything on credit, except for (maybe) a HOME". I saved my money and paid cash in 1966. Although my original dealorship paperwork is long-since gone, no documentation exists that anyone else has ever owned my '66. It is herewith being offered to the highest bidder. The car is rare, collectable, and a real head-turner. Most everywhere I go, folks shove their business cards or notes with phone numbers, with the hope I will call them with an OFFER TO SELL. So-brazen were some, that on a bright sunny Summer day, an announcement was made at a COSTCO: "Will the owner of the maroon '66 Chevy return to the parking lot.....your lights are on". I'm now READY!. So NOW, a bunch of detailed, but random comments: My original 1966 convertible (with original 283 engine) and having a four-on-the-floor stick) was purchased at the time I was employed at Ft. Lee, Virginia. At purchase, I could not then afford the extra $125 & $150 for power steering and breaks. (Those items are probably still-available.) The engine runs good, top is relatively new--goes up and down well. Most interior (B & W) upholstery and carpet were replaced one time, and look good. Car has been garaged most of years in California and Washington State. Body has been repainted twice (first blue, and then back to the original maroon). There are paint chips and flecks, and peeling, and little rock dings, but I see no dents as-such. I'm sure it has normal rust for the age. A small amount of bondo was used years ago. Tires have reasonable tread and are okay. Has newish spare and original jack. (No tire iron.) Has all hubs. Has trailor hitch. Radio is original Chevy AM. Antenna and the power switch for the top are not original. During Summers, we use convertible for sunny trips to Canada, Oregon, and California, weather permitting. One headlight assembly fell off, and a possible replacement is loose and available for you to re-apply....if it is the correct one. (SEE PICTURE OF PILE OF PARTS.) The current odometer reading is 42,161. As of Feb. 22, 1983, actual mileage (@ 17 yrs. of age) was 112,984, but the shown reading was 12,984 (car had PASSED the 100K mark). The engine and transmission have been rebuilt one time around 1995 @ 180,000 miles, approximate mileage since re-build is 62,161. If you intend to have car shipped, would be glad to drive it to either the Seattle or Olympia area for drop-off. If you desire them, I'll include any extra (as suggested) parts for car and will place in trunk. Also, car has a like-new white snap-on/clip-down rag top cover--for when the convertible top is down. Questions: 253/584-0263. NOTE: Two of the pictures are pics of pics showing: (1) Original purchased car in 1966; and (2) Waiting for the Ferry to San Juan Islands in 2000.....What a fun car!!! Car has not been washed in-years. (No sense detailling it, cause you'll want to apply a state-of-the-art pristine paint job--most likely!) Small rock ding on windshield. Headlight switch works for headlights & inside floor area, but flickers for dash lights. Recommend replace switch. The window handle (back passenger seat) has come off & is in the glove box. (Likely, the post is stripped, but could be re-attached.) Driver side rear view mirror is likely not stock. (There is an old one--which might be original.) The white rag-top cover is like-new--matching the upholstery. If requested, will provide a box of misc. 1966 parts--YOU decide what they are. IF WANTED, I'll put them in the trunk. NOTE: Vehicle is being offered as-is, where-is, how-is. I have attempted to provide as much info as I am aware. Be sure to ask questions about anything I may not have covered. I will try within my capacity to provide answers. PAYMENT IN FULL IS REQUIRED or car will be re-listed here or there. Accept Cashiers Check, in-full within 7-days and a PayPal or a Cash Deposit in-advance within 48 hours of your winning bid. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pick-up and/or shipping. Delivery of car and any related costs will be the sole responsibility of the purchaser. On May-09-11 at 17:36:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional info. mainly for jladikia, ronstelling, and tooblue: Please see the posted "other" answer. This is a combo-answer. As mentioned, other pics are not available. I am not familiar with certain technical automotive terms; so, cannot respond to some. It is obvious that some viewers are interested in the matter of rust--and rightly-so. I'm happy to acknowledge (and aside from that which has been mentioned) that this 45 yr. old chevy "has to" have rust in areas not-easily observable UNLESS this car has remained in a vacuum. Therefore, to avoid likely increased restoration costs, suggest that you not bid on the vehicle unless the bid takes into consideration the probable existence of rust. As is, always is as is. Further, I was once informed that bondo (as mentioned) had been used prior to the time car was repainted. We were not given details, nor did we ask for them. Other than a transmission rebuild, nothing has been done to it (except a new clutch), nor to the rear end. Not sure about bushings or drivetrain (whatever these are) but let us say that years ago th UJoints were re-done, front end was re-alligned, steering play was corrected, and rear air shocks were installed. Chev pulled and launched a heavy boat to and at Neah Bay, WA for a couple of days of open-ocean halibut fishing-awhile back. Car was also used successfully to pull a u-Haul from WA to CA (and-back), and to move a 22.5' SeaRay up Interstate 5 to Kent, WA Marina. (Several people told us car was too light to do that.....) Yes, the car has been previously shown on eBay in March of this year. It had Item No. 220740961793. The three bids at that time were $7700, $10000, and $12000. The Reserve Price was not reached; so, car did not sell. This time, vehicle was offered at a lower reserve. Good Luck to those inclined to bid. Someone will win in a few days, this time around, and likely look forward to great pride of ownership! And, hope we've properly addressed most questions and concerns. Thanks for your inqiries! lowell88
