Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a nice 1952 Studebaker Commander Starliner Hardtop that was built in their Los Angeles plant. The body is nearly rust-free and body panels are straight, showing no signs of any major accident repair. The car runs well and attracts attention wherever it's driven. Although the car is not “show quality,” it is above average and is an excellent example of sixty year old car. Mechanics: 232.6 cubic inch 120 horsepower overhead valve V-8. Three speed manual transmission with column shifter and overdrive. No major oil leaks (occasionally a drop or two at most) and car does not smoke. Wheelbase is 115”, weight is 3,220 #, 14,548 were produced, and original price was $2,488. Tires are almost new as well as the battery and coil.Vehicle true mileage is unknown. Interior: Seat material is in excellent condition, headliner is in good condition, side door panels are in good condition but need to be tightened up. Carpet is in good condition. Known defects: Overdrive does not engage (most common problem is the solenoid). Radio is missing. Small paint bubbles on lower right truck deck due to water getting into holes that accept the “Commander” emblem. Most of the chrome is in fairly good condition but a few areas have some pitting. STUDEBAKER PRICES HAVE BEEN RISING! NADA Book Value: Low Retail: $6,425 / Average Retail: $13,650 / High Retail: $22,800 History: The 1952 Studebaker Commander State Starliner was a new addition to Studebaker's upper series in the last year of the 1947 body design. The '50-'51 bullet nose was eliminated in favor of a "shovel” snout – sometimes dubbed a “clam digger.” The '52 Commander Starliner is significant in that it was Studebaker's first hardtop, with a top-quality interior and pillarless roof. The '52 model also marked the 100th anniversary of the Studebaker company. If you have questions, please ask and I will do my best to provide the information you want. Sold FOB Clearwater, FL 33755.
