Vehicle Detail
(RELISTED). Here's what happened. A super nice guy bought the car here on ebay on Saturday for $2998 on a bid style auction (#220770937566), came up this morning to pick it up and pay for it. After we had a cup of coffee he went out to drive it quick, and when he came back there was oil all on the front of the engine and puddling below the car. Of course I was in shock to see this and didn't know what to do except tell him he didn't have to buy the car and that I was sorry and had no idea what happened and I also was in disbelief that this could even happen. I told him again, that I did not want him to buy the car. We shook hands, he left, and, after getting my composure back (from feeling so bad about the guy coming this far and for that to happen), I went out and checked it over. It ended up being that the dipstick was on loose (not puched in all the way) and the oil had ran up the stick and spat and spilled out. The compression on these diesels is extremely high, thus the dipstick has to be on tight and the dipstick on this car has a rubber gasket on top of the dipstick to ensure a tight fit. I then put it on tight, drove 10 miles, took it to the mechanic just to be double sure, and he confirmed the same thing, that the dipstick was loose. Obviously, It's on tight now. There is no more oil leak, other than a possible drip in a normal spot for a 1984 or maybe even a residual drip from this episode. OK, that is why it is relisted!! Again, with a total of 35 bids, it sold for $2998. I don't need that for the car, and I set the buy it now at $2500 for you to have room to do the little things you want mentioned below. The car is only going to go up in value. If you want to stick it to the MIDDLE EAST, fold the back seat down and put a vegetable oil tank there. I can't be any more honest about the car, and you can buy this thing cheap to cover any work you want to do! OK! Up for sale is a super rare and hard to find diesel Mercury Lynx Stationwagon with a FULL TANK OF DIESEL FUEL! I just filled it up with ALL CITY miles and averaged 38MPG. Highway average has been 50+. It is a FACTORY 2.0 diesel (original engine) car. It has 28,029 miles. I can't prove that they are original and don't believe they are. The owner I bought it from said he believed it could be original as he was told they were original, as it came from a baptist minister who had gotten the car from elderly parishioners who could no longer drive. The brake and clutch pedals would certainly look like they are original miles and the windshield appears to be the original (great shape), and the wheels are like new and believed to be original, but when you look at the wear mark on the carpet where you put your heels, it is worn. I am selling it as it is, and let you judge for yourself based on the pics. My suggestion is to guess it's turned over, just to be safe. This is a loaded up model with cruise, am/fm (with a premium button option very very rare) air conditioning, and power steering. Just put a newer (made in 11/10) battery in the car but the cranking amps are only at 600 and it really needs 850 to pop off, so sometimes you need to jump it. A new battery will fix it, and just in case you're wondering how much an alternator is, they are $40 plus shipping, but I do think it's just too small of a battery. The air and cruise don't work. The heater and fan work excellent! The tach does not work either. It could be a fuse to fix the cruise and/or tach, I just don't know. The odometer and speedometer work just fine. The interior is overall clean. The exterior has some small rust here and there, not much. It was in a pretty good hailstorm at some point, and it shows when you get close to the car. In my opinion it just adds character...it is a 1984!! The car sits straight as an arrow and drives very very well for the year. Feels comfortable and drives straight down the road. It is a 5 speed transmission and clutch feels great. Engine compartment was NOT detailed for the pictures (shined up with sprayed WD-40, but not degreased, etc). It is just super clean. OK, here are the negatives.... Pretty good Hail dings everywhere- see pics. Some rust here and there. Diesel knock is loud due to the fuel pump being turned up just a little to high. The guy I bought it from was a 70 year old diesel mechanic and explained it very well and said it has perfect compression, power etc but said he didn't feel like turning the pump. It had been this way since he bought it and he put over a 1000 miles on the car and it didn't change while he had it. It does have plenty of power. It also drips diesel fuel. It doesn't pour out, or stream out, but it does drip a little, not a lot. Maybe3-4 drips after you park, and this seems to have lessened. The parking brake does not work. The electric fan for the radiator works off a toggle switch under the steering wheel section. Use only when needed for driving in town days when it's hot. No need on the highway. The hood latch also works well but is kind of hanging where it is supposeed to be mounted and the plastic around it is broke. The hatchback struts are worn out and need replaced (stick included). It's a 1984 and a little finicky when starting warm or cold. Always starts, runs good, but finicky to start at times. I do believe you could literally drive it anywhere in the country. I have sold vehicles on EBAY for myself or others (including Nissan, VW, and several other car and pickup diesels)and have made every transaction a great one, so bid often, and bid with confidence!! Every person comments to me how I overdescribe, underpromise, and overdeliver, and this is my goal (see feedback!)!!! The car is sold AS IS with no warranty. NO WARRANTY means exactly what it means. Buyer holds seller harmless for any shortcomings with the car. I welcome and invite anyone to check it out before you bid. In buying the truck you understand that there is no recourse for any problems or repairs you might incur. I described this to the best of my ability and if I thought or knew of anything it needed, I would mention it! For shipping, you should check on www.auto-car-transport.com and they will get you about 7 different rates from good carriers. You will probably see the quote come back at about $700 or so. I have shipped about 5 vehicles both out and in and have had 100% good experience with it. I will work with your shipper if needed. Clear Nebraska title in my moms name, and ready to pick up when you pay in full. $750 non refundable deposit due within 2 business days of auction close (paypal OK), and full amount due within 5 business days of auction close. If you do use paypal, then add 2.9% to the price which you use paypal, otherwise you can send a cashiers check or bring cash. Delivery and pickup is buyers responsibility, but I will assist in any way possible. Ponca is within 30 minutes of Sioux City Iowa. We are very close driving distance to Minneapolis, Des Moines, Omaha, Kansas City, Sioux Falls, and even Denver/Chicago. Please if you're a perfectionist or a nitpicker, do not bid. I hope that whoever buys it knows and likes and has experience with diesel engines. If you're not sure, then do not bid!! Again, TRUST THE FEEDBACK and trust this very rare, and YES, super cool car! It is a very good find. Good luck!! My phone number is 712.333.5897. Please call or email if you have any questions. Mark
