Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1979 Y-84 matching number black & gold Special Edition Pontiac Trans Am. The car is equiped with an matching olds 403 6.6 L engine, T-Tops, power windows/locks, cruise control, air conditioning, tilt steering, snowflake rims, and automatic transmission. Please keep in mind I will do my best to describe this car in as much detail as I can but the vehicle is 32 years old and will need restoration work to bring it back to it's glory. Paint Job: The overall paint on the car is in good shape in my opinion and the combination of black paint and gold decals still stand out and turn heads. The paint is dull in some areas and probably would shine up with a good buffing which I have not done at this point. The gold bird on the hood is in great shape as are the smaller bird decals on each side of the car. The smaller gold pin stripping around the car is decent though there are areas where it is peeling and chipped. Body: The body of the car is decent but does have the usual ware and tear and common rust issues one can expect for a car of this age. Areas that will need metal work are rocker panels, both quarter panels, both door jam areas in front of rear wheel spoilers. The passenger side floor pan will need to be replaced but the other pans seem to be decent. The trunk pan needs some patch work. One door on the car has a dent/crease in it but can be popped out and repaired. The frame of the car is in good shape but there is a small hole in the left rear frame rail that will need to be patched. ** The T-Tops are original and are complete and show normal signs of wear and tear but have no cracks and lock in and out of place just fine. they do not leak unless you recieve a hard rainfall, but that can be fixed with new weather stripping. ** I have had some work done on the front of the car replacing the front shock absorbers, sway bar links, and coil springs in 2010 ** The car has four brand new tires Hercules H/P 400 which were put on at the end of summer in 2010. There are a few lugnuts that need to be replaced due to age. ** All of the exterior lights, brake lights, headlights, turn signals, and flashers work. Engine/Transmission: As mentioned mentioned above you are looking at an Olds 403 6.6 L and it is the original engine and is complete. there is rust on the engine so if you are looking to make this vehicle show condition the engine will need to be pulled and restored, but as is this powerhouse starts and runs with alot of power when you punch the pedal on the road and has a nice roar to it. The carberator is a Rochester 4bbl which is in good shape. The only thing I can see that needs to be repaired or replaced on the motor is the short water pump bypass pipe leading into the front of the engine which has that putty metal around it right now but holds up fine when driving. The exhaust is decent and has the chrome tips still on the but it will need some work as the manifolds are warped to where new gaskets does not seal all the airflow. Brakes check out and work fine. ** The transmission was completely rebuilt w/ a shift kit in 2008 at a local garage. ** The car is equiped with air conditioning and though those components are not currently in the car I have the original compressor and pipes to reinstall which will be included in the auction. ** There are new wires, plugs, fuel hoses, air filter, oil filter, and battery in the car as of the end of summer in 2010 Interior: All of the windows are solid with no cracks or chips. The dash has one of those dash pad covers on it which is cracked and will need to be replaced for show quality. The gold dash bezel is faded as is the gold steering wheel. All of the guages in the dash and lights work, including the clock!!!! The plastic/metal trim all around the car is in great shape with no cracks or issues. The center counsel and shifter are in fine shape and the gold bird is still in the shifter. The driver and passenger seats have the usual splits on the bottom and top portions along the seams but the rest is decent. The rear seats have no splits, rips, or tears in them and are in excellent shape! The carpet seems to be the original "shag" style and the headliner does not sag and is in great shape. The door panels are in alright shape though some of the plastic clips holding them on the door have broken so some repair is needed. The outter fuzzy window moldings at the top of the doors that push against the windows will have to be replaced. The power locks work and window motors work, but seem to be slow and probably need to be replaced or possibly just the window aparatus oiled up. The radio has been replaced but it does not appear the holes were cut out from the original dash. The silver "Body By Fisher" sill plates are in great shape. ** Please note that this car is not equiped with a rear defrost on the window or switch in the dash ** I retrieved the build sheet from behind the rear seat and unfortunately it is no longer completely intact as it once was, but I taken four pictures which show the VIN# and the Y84 Special Edition option listed on the right side of the build sheet. I have parts of the build sheet that was under the gas tank which also reflects the VIN# and Y84 Special Edition markings as well. Storage: For the past four years this car has been stored in a dry heated environment and has not seen a winter since I purchased it. In the summers the car is often covered but is stored outside for the most part. Inspection: The car has been registered on the road and has passed inspection the past four years that I have been the owner. Please note that when the car was taken out of storage less than two weeks ago I took the plates off as I have decided not to re-inspect the car or keep the car registered or insured since I am selling it and for financial reasons. Driving: This car starts and runs fine but I have only used this car as a daily driver and gone to shows or cruised around now and then while I worked on it. I have never driven the car a great length of distance more than 60 miles at a time, so I would suggest when you purchase the car you have it towed or flatbedded. FOR MORE PICTURES OF THIS VEHICLE PLEASE CLICK HERE - Included in the auction is the original user's manual along with a 1979 Service Manual for the vehicle which are both in excellent shape as you can see from the pictures. - There is a spare tire included with the auction but I am unsure of how to tell if it is original though it is a goodyear brand with all of the rubber "hairy" nubs still present. I included a picture of the Stowaway Spare Tire Inflator which appears to be full from the feel of it. though the label is peeled in areas it does say Genuine GM on it and the metal tube is engraved with a date of 1979. - The tires on the vehicle are brand new and to show this I included a picture of one of the tires still showing the blue protective coloring over the white letters underneath. This has been my dream car to say the least as I am sure it would be for many out there. I love this car and my intentions and goals were to keep this car and restore to it's glory days, however due to recent downsizing and layoff at work I made the tough decision to sell this car. I have done my best to describe this car in detail but due to the age of the vehicle it is being sold in AS IS CONDITION and as a project / restoration car and all sales are final!! Please feel free to email with any questions and I will be more than happy to answer as quickly as I can. The buyer of this vehicle is soley responsible for any and all costs and arrangements to ship this car, and payment for the car must be cleared in full before it will be released. This car is being listed on EBay and is currently for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Happy Bidding!!
