Vehicle Detail
Please note, these are file photos. I am unable to photograph the car today because I am not in New York where I have the car stored. As soon as I get there, I will take photos. In case you don't know what file photos are, they are pictures of another 1968 cadillac of the same model. In this case the photo is courtesy of the GM Corp and they are original paintings from the 1968 cadillac brochure. These are NOT pictures of the car for sale. The purpose of file photos is to show what the car looks like (not the condition of the car, but the general shape and size). It is done all the time. If you intend to buy the car, you are under no obligation to pay any money until you see the car in person and approve of the car personally. I don't keep deposits as a form of profit. If you give a deposit, it will only be to hold the car until you can see it. If you don't like the car, you get the money back. Also note, that the car in the photos appears to be in perfect condition. (mine is not in perfect condition) It is also the same color exterior, except my car has some primer spots and 2 rust holes behind the tires in the usual spots down low on the fenders behind the tires. Also, the photo shows a black interior where my car has white interior with red carpet and dash. 1968 Cadillac DeVille Convertible Runs and drives perfectly. Needs cosmetics only... I have driven it daily every summer for 13 years. I have driven it on trips of hundreds of miles on many occasions without even thinking about it. It is reliable, comfortable, powerful, quiet, and safe. Has the tightest steering of any 68 Cadillac I have ever driven, and I own 4 1968 Cadillacs, one of which I bought brand new. It is frustrating that I can't get my other cars to steer like this. Feels like rack and pinion it is so tight. Anyway, it has a new timing chain. (I put in the timing chain and sprockets before the old one broke, to avoid ruining the engine. [as I have in other 68 cads.] The factory used a plastic camshaft sprocket, and after 40 years the plastic sprocket breaks and the pistons hit the valves. I replaced it with a first class Cloyes steel sprocket and chain set...) I have not had to do anything else with the car. It has never broken down or needed anything. It needs cosmetics. It needs a top. it needs paint. On one side of the car there are holes in the body in the usual place down low behind the tires. Holes are about 2" tall and they make patch panels out of steel to fix this. You cut the bottom of the fender off and weld on these panels. Almost every 1968 Cadillac has this done to it. The other side of the car has rust in the same places but not holes yet...The rest of the car is very straight solid and rust free. There is no bondo anywhere. There is a light dent from parking lot damage on the rear 1/4 panel on one side. This is very minor. I believe the floors are solid. The trunk is solid. Grille is perfect. I seem to remember the chrome is solid. Top frame is good. Needs new top. White leather has been recovered with white vinyl seat covers. Interior seats need to be re covered or re dyed, depending on what you want to do with it. Or leave it as is, like I have for 13 years. I think the dash is perfect. Car has lots of good points, and you can have a running driving car that you can drive daily for the price of a total basket case that hasn't run in 20 years and has no useable body panels. There are things that I don't use, like the air conditioning, and the radio. It needs speakers. The a/c probably needs a charge and maybe a poa and txv valve. That is all they ever need. The condensors and a6 compressors are bullet proof. but I have not messed with it, because there is no roof. The wipers do work, though. I remember getting caught in the rain once. Car has lots of rare options. Air Conditioning Climate Control Cruise control Disk brakes (I'm 99% sure it has them) (this was rare, and I think the first year they did it.) FM Stereo (this was rare in those days, stereo had just come out) Twilight Sentinel Auto Dimming Tilt wheel Power windows, top, seats, antenna, steering, brakes Power bench seat I am selling my real estate and will have no place to store my cars. Please note that the mileage I listed for the car is estimated. I seem to remember it had about 80,000 miles but I could be mistaken, as I have many old cars and I am not near the car now. I will not be available to show the car until I get back to New York, which will be in the next few days or weeks. If you have questions, please use email to contact me if possible.
