Vehicle Detail

BMW R100GS “Bumblebee” Produced between 1988 and 1994, the R100GS was a huge success for BMW and has gone on to become a desirable classic. With carburetors, 40mm in the US, the bike is easy to maintain in more remote situations. Same for spoke wheels, especially with a single sided swingarm. Shaft drive adds relentless reliability. At 462lbs, the bike is light compared to its modern versions, yet the 60bhp, torquey 980cc engine is powerful to transport two with full luggage on tour on road or off. And with BMW suspension set up and Brembo brakes, it will do it all effortlessly. The bike offered has been GS enthusiast owned from new. I purchased the bike from a mature and avid bike tourer, who serviced the bike regularly, and maintained it meticulously. The engine was, apparently “gone through” some time ago, with new upper-end. The engine is strong and the bike shifts smoothly. Since buying the bike, I have serviced it and ridden it frequently. It is an easy bike to maneuver in traffic or on the open road, and is ample fast. I took it to Seattle this summer and rode down through Tahoe and Yosemite without any issues at all. The previous owner had very high bars on it, which I have replaced with dirt bike bars. The other bars come with the bike. I also added the rear trunk and a 12V adapter to charge my iPod and Navigation. The bike comes complete with the original BMW luggage, a $500 value on the used market in itself. It is in very good condition throughout with a few scuffs on the fairing and side panel (one was lost), but the tank has been repainted and is in excellent condition. There is general wear on the bike, but nothing excessive. Here’s a great touring, or even commuting bike, stacked full of BMW reliability and comfort.
