Vehicle Detail

Body is absolutely original, right down to the Colorado sun bleached paint. No collision damage or rust ever, not even in the usual R5 places. Windshield is cracked, all other glass is good. Despite its field car appearance, you are looking at very straight clean original metal from bumper to bumper. It hasn't been run in a long time, been sitting inside my warehouse for at least five years, so you should only be considering this car if you are a restoration hobbyist with some background in stored vehicle resurrection. If you do enjoy the process, this is a car that will give a lot of reward for some straightforward and inexpensive work. Consider that if all you did was to bring it back to life and drive it, you would have a solid 35+ mpg driver. Throw back the acre-sized sunroof (OK, it's already open for you at the moment, but that's a very basic top to replace), and you get panoramic sky, not just a hole overhead. If you've ever looked at restoring a LeCar, you have probably seen a Midwest car that shows "usual rust". Usually, more time and money is needed than the finished car is worth. This project is within reach of somebody with no bodywork experience, because it doesn't need any. It will need a fabric sunroof, a windshield, seats recovered, and less obvious stuff which will be added as I find it. Lots more info and pics to follow, feel free to ask for specific shots. I want to put the shop vac to it before taking more pictures, not to make it look better, but to keep years of dust off of me...Please watch my auctions for a series of Renault cars and parts, including spares for this one. Thanks for Looking! Dan Larson On Apr-10-11 at 18:58:40 PDT, seller added the following information: 4/10/11 Todays cleanup and inspection yields good and bad, first The Bad: The engine is stuck, the exhaust system is toast, the brake pedal goes to the floor(parking brake works, though), the headliner is in tatters, two thin trim pieces(front of hood and right rocker spear) are missing, the rearview mirror is broken but included, the side mirror is loose, the plastic door button surround on the drivers side is broken(doesn't affect operation), the original seats look the part, the left taillight lens has a small piece missing, and I found the carb boot clamp in the back seat, indicating that someone at least had a look before parking it. Not that I would have expected anyone to park a perfectly good running car for 20 years for no reason anyway. The windshield and sunroof still need to be replaced. If none of that scares you, please read on... The Good? It's still a really nice untouched body, complete and intact throughout. You won't have to do any rust or collision repair, or search for unobtainable missing parts. Doors close solidly on original weatherstrip. It rolls and steers smoothly on four decent tires, and would be a great candidate for a towbar home. I can put some of the needed parts up for auction if there's enough interest; I have a 60K engine/trans assembly, new muffler, extra mounted tires, gasket sets, Konis, and so on. If you would like to add to the package by winning a few more auctions, we can just put the parts in the car... I'm sure there will be more info added as the auction runs, so I'd be happy to shoot more pictures or give details of any areas of interest - Please Ask! - There are still 16 openings on the Picture Pack! Might as well give you the situation at this end for pickup while I'm here, too: The LeCar is in a commercial warehouse directly next to I-25 in Denver. There are docks, a ramp, and enough room to park interstate semis. I will help you load, and can provide shop support if you're going the flat towing route. I will continue to store the car in the warehouse for up to 30 days free of charge, and can tarp it in a fenced lot if you need more time. And in case I haven't already driven the point home, THIS IS A NON RUNNING PROJECT CAR. It could be your daughters graduation present, but you'd better get right on it. You should already be a car person, better yet a Renault person. If you are, this car will make a great restoration for much less time and effort than most, and give you a very economical, practical classic. Thanks! Dan
