Vehicle Detail

1964 Plymouth Sport Fury 2 dr hardtop The 1960s brought a proliferation of models from all American automakers. All had a compact line of cars ready by 1960; two years later they had been joined by intermediate or mid-size cars. Chrysler Corporation lagged behind the other members of the Big Three in fielding intermediates, but made up for lost ground in 1965 by going Ford and Chevrolet one better. Rather than creating a new downsized model, Plymouth stretched its full-size cars to a 119-inch wheelbase, and gave them the name "Fury." The car offered here has been a labor of love for several years. With a starting point of a straight rust-free California black license plated car, with an original 84,000 miles from new, the owner set about a full restoration with serious upgrades and performance enhancements. The body was stripped and painted red and adorned with a hood with functional scoop from a 1965 Hemi powered car. The paint is good quality with great luster and shine. All chrome and stainless refinished or replated and a couple of very hard to find pieces were sourced and replaced. All window moldings and felt replaced and a new windshield was installed. The interior was fully restored to correct original specification in black using original materials. A custom center consol with cup holders and clock was installed. The original position for the clock in the dash is no occupied by a subtely fitted tachometer. A new radio was installed in the dash, with a trunk mounted 6 CD changer and power antenna. The battery was moved to the trunk. A more sporty leather covered steering wheel was fitted, but the beautiful original item was completely restored and is displayed in a custom built plexy display box with a rare model of the car, and will accompany the car. Then the owner directed his attention to the mechanicals of the car. The engine is a built 383ci with a few modifications: Block and Crank from a 1964 Dodge New stage 5 heads Mopar electronic ignition system Aluminum high-rise intake manifold Street Demon 750 carburetor New Be Cool aluminum radiator with electric fan, custom mounted A brand new exhaust system was installed with headers The car was built with a potential upgrade to Hemi-power. The bell-housing and everything under the hood was designed to receive a Hemi 426 with minimal work. The drive train, too, was all custom installed, with: Keisler Engineering TKO-600 5 speed transmission Heavy duty hydraulic clutch rated up to 650 HP New chromoly steel drive shaft New Dana 60 rear end with 3:73 gears The suspension was completely restored and modified with all new heavy duty torsion bars, rear springs and traction bars. Everything else is Polygraphite. The braking system for the car consists of discs on each corner with power booster and bias control mounted under the hood. A brand new gas tank was installed. The car runs on rare 16” Crager chrome S/S wheels, shod with nearly new tires. Since the build, the car has covered a mere 1500 miles and is in truly superb condition throughout. The engine, having just been run in, is strong and tight and has great power. The transmission is smooth. The suspension is taught and the car handles well. The brakes are very effective and pull the car up straight. All electrical systems work perfectly. The car comes complete with a folder of build receipts and records for the car, the beautifully displayed steering wheel, the quite rare original body side and rear moldings, and the original 14” wheels with the rare original hubcaps. p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal { margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; font-size: 12pt; font-family: Times; }div.Section1 { page: Section1; } Also an air cleaner to match the valve covers – the one fitted to the car breaths better. Additional photos are available upon request of the underside, interior (excellent dash top and headliner), etc.
