Vehicle Detail

I have a 1978 Mercedes 450 sel that I picked up to rehab. It sat in a garage for 6 years after the owner died. I bought it from the son. It has low original miles. The son told me his father drove the car all the time and was regularly maintained when he took ill. The family put in the garage and there it sat until I bought it. I was impressed by the straightness of the body and I thought I could rehab it. I started to get the dust and grime off it and rubbed out the hood and cleaned the bumpers and bumperettes and found it to be in nice condition. The interior is velour not leather. There are Mercedes seat covers on the seats but I pulled back the drivers seatcover to show the velour in the pics. The pic of the back seat shows the seat covers that they have on it. I put in a new battery and all the windows work as do the lights and radio. The turn signals need a new flasher unit as it just buzzes when you put the signal on. I put some lubricant in each cylinder and checked the plugs and such, let that oil soak for a couple days. I put starting fluid in the throttle body/mass airflow and the engine fired right up! It only ran on the fluid as the fuel pump did not come on. Maybe the relay or the pump. But it did fire right away. I have pictures of the hood and trunk lid. They are straight and rust free as are all the doors. There is a little rust on the bottom of the driver side fender at the bottom as well as around the sunroof. There is a small patch of rust-through in the rear left floor pan. Not a big area. I have pics to show the rust areas. The door panels are really good and the dash has only very minor cracks that I could not see through the camera. The wood trim is in decnt shape for 33 years as is the headliner. I think it would be a crime to part this out since the mileage is under 90,000 miles. It will have to be towed from my garage as the fuel pump is not coming on and the brakes have not been tested in 6 years. All glass is in really good shape. It was a diplomat car from the middle east before the deceased owner brought it here to the US. He and his family lived in Saudi Arabia and they bought it off a very important Saudi man(the son said it was a Saudi prince with whom his banker father had dealings) and the car has privacy curtains in the back that have seen better days. Since it's before 1981, they didn't list the VIN. The VIN is- 11603 31207 5943. Clear NJ title. Email any questions. The buy it now price may seem low but I am just trying to get back what I paid. Thanks! A big p.s. This car is NOT a 6.9. Someone previously bid and won this car on the assumption that it was and refused the car. Please ask any questions!
