Vehicle Detail

We are offering this very rare (one of roughly forty) 1983 Volvo 760GLE Limousine. It is powered by a reliable and economical 2.8 liter Volvo V6. The previous owner stated that he was able to achieve 20mpg on the highway. Regarding the condition of this limousine I would characterize it as a very presentable, drivable, restoration project. This limousine drives smoothly on tires that are in good condition with roughly 90% tread. The transmission shifts well and the brakes are good. The previous owner invested between $6,500 and $7,500 on the restoration that was completed over the 7 years that he owned the car. It was garage kept during the time that he had it and only driven on a few occasions. He had the cloth top replaced and the car painted. The top has one small 1” cut in it, but is otherwise in excellent condition. The quality of the paint refinishing on the car is probably a 6 on a scale of 1-10. It is in very good condition, but if you look closely there are a couple of spots where you can see where the finish sanding was done prior to the paints application. It looks very presentable and will likely last for many years and most people probably wouldn’t notice the flaws that I mentioned. The previous owner also upgraded the audio video system in the rear of the limousine to include DVD, CD, XM Satellite Radio and all new speakers. A high end remote alarm system was installed by the previous owner, but unfortunately the remote control was misplaced. The alarm includes remote control windows and remote engine start. A replacement remote could be ordered by the new owner. The upholstery in the front and rear of the car are in very good condition, as is the carpet. The rear of the car is missing its running boards, but these are standard issue Volvo parts and shouldn’t be difficult to source. The dashboard is in good condition with only a couple of tiny cracks visible. The headliner in the front part of the car is missing, but all of the trim around the perimeter of the ceiling appears to be in place. The car drives very well with no unusual noises emanating from the engine compartment. It does not smoke and it tracks smoothly down the road at 70mph. I would probably drive this car home if I was the purchaser. The only issue I’ve noted with the motor is that it idles a little rough. I took it to a mechanic and he suspected that it may need an injector. The motor revs and drives smoothly with good power and the only symptom is a rough idle. It also runs cool and I haven’t noted any overheating issues. There are a few other small issues that I noted and they are: fuel gauge doesn’t work, the dash lights aren’t working (although the headlights do work). The odometer doesn’t work and it stopped at 88,000 miles. The factory premium sound system does work in the front of the car. This car does include records for the past 10 years as well as some memorabilia such as the original sales brochure, press releases for the introduction of the car, a couple of newspaper articles and photos of these limousines when they were first introduced. The previous owner stated to me that he was the second owner of the car, but I was not able to verify this statement. The owner did provide me with receipts and records indicating that he has spent a substantial amount of money restoring the car during the ten years that he owned it. The previous owner was going to present the car to his brother as a gift because this was the same make and model limousine that was used at his brother’s wedding, but after his brother showed little interest in what he was doing for him he lost interest in the restoration project and it sat in a corner of his six car garage until I discovered it while looking at another car he had for sale. This car is pretty far down the restoration path and deserves to be completed. Or it could be driven and enjoyed the way it is now. The previous owner told me that only about 40 of these limousines were ever produced, so this just might the lowest cost 40 unit production run car on the road today. There is no reserve on this auction, so someone will own this car for as little as 1/15th of what it cost to restore it to this point. We do however reserve the right to sell the vehicle locally during the auction. Please feel free to ask questions and I will do my best to answer them. You may also call me at 407-394-4209 between 9am and 9pm Eastern Standard Time. Good luck and thanks for your interest!
