It’s 27 years old now so there are some issues, but it drives, the top electrically retracts perfectly, and most of the electronics/mechanics work well. I have a full, clean title. It passed California smog last March; However, I am selling “as is,” and I cannot guarantee that it will pass CA smog next time. This is a re-list: The previous winner did not respond to my emails. Please do not bid if you are not serious about winning it. As far I know, it has 126,000 original miles. It has also lived its whole life in southern California (Sand Diego and Los Angeles) so the weather (apart from the Sun) has been kind to it. I have the original sales receipt, and have the name and contact information for the previous two owners. I bought it 1 year ago as a project to restore it to its full beauty, but all I’ve done is drive it around the neighborhood with my kids. The car originally cost $40K in 1984, which, if you factor inflation, corresponds to $82K today! I’m not saying it’s worth even a fraction of that, but that, at the time, it was the most luxurious car you could possibly buy. It’s a really nice vehicle for driving around the neighborhood, but, after 30 minutes, it starts to run more roughly. A friend has said that it’s an electronic module that needs replacing, but I don’t know enough about these cars to say that that’s the cause. Anyway, we have 4 cars and my wife is making me get rid of this one. I’ve uploaded some videos onto YouTube.com to hear the engine, see the top opening, and see the car while being driven, under the username “thepeteriley”. Or click these links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE7IJeFNd3w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBpDRkAceKo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-a_UIgjXBI If possible, I will add more movies during the week (if you would like something specific, please let me know). This would be a great project car to restore. To do it properly would probably require: (1) a new top – although the one that’s on it is, amazingly, watertight (see pictures of where it’s peeling); (2) reupholster the interior – the current, original leather is OK, but there are some cracks at the seams and marks on it; and (3) an engine tune – I don’t know why it starts to run roughly after 30 minutes (if you’re in the San Diego area, you could drive it home, but if out-of-state, you’ll need to arrange a way to transport it). If you’re still reading, then you’re probably willing to restore it, as I wish I could. So let me point out a few more issues, in no particular order: - The radio resets the channel when the passenger door is open. And usually to an Oldies station…which is why I named her “Christine”. - The front, offside fender is loose (taped on, please see the pictures). - The windscreen wipers only work occasionally, and the rubber needs replacing. - One of the small rear windows only sometimes rolls up. - I just found out recently, that if you leave the car sitting for a week or so it needs a jump to start it. (I’m not sure if the battery is bad or there is a short). -The emergency brake doesn’t work. (The pedal works and the light shows but it doesn’t catch). - Although it hasn’t happened to me, the previous owner said that even when the electronic “gallons left” gauge said there was still 5 gallons, it ran out of fuel. There are other indicators of this though, and, as I said, it seems to work for me. - The interior is original. I think it is in pretty good shape, but there are cracks, where it’s worn out. Please see the pictures. - The indicator of which gear you’re in is a little offset. You have to move the shifter a little to the left of the ‘D’ to engage in drive, for example. - There are a number of locations with small areas of surface rust. As far as I can tell, it’s very limited and could be fixed with a local prime and touchup. As I hope you can see, I believe in pointing out every possible issue with the Biarritz. There are some amazing aspects that should be pointed out: First of all, the car is running, completely stock as far as I can tell, with only 126,000 miles and 3 owners, all in Southern California. The top retracts perfectly, and although there is some peeling of the top layer, it’s fully waterproof. The wheels are amazing (see pictures). The tires are good. I think it’s an awesome project car that can be worked on little by little and for not much money. Since it’s already running, if you only need it for 15-20 mile trips, it should serve you well without any investment. But I would love for the winning bidder to restore it to its full beauty. It really is a classic of American engineering. Transportation of the car from my house is up to the winning bidder. I’m happy to help work with you if you are remotely located, but you will have to arrange and pay for pickup. The VIN number is: 1G6AL6787EE627964
