1998 Jaguar XJ8 Sedan 112k miles. This is a low cost XJ8 Its my 7th one, having just bought a newer model. I love these cars. Yes they have their quirks and annoying things but there is just nothing like them So, I have owned this one for 3 years. It has never let me down on the road. It has a new fuel tank and fuel pump after the drain blocked next to the gas tank and some water got in. To be safe, i replaced the tank and pump. The injectors were not affected at all. See video of engine running. (note, in Jags its a $4 tube, make sure its not blocked or broken, it can be expensive otherwise. Real smart of their design team putting the gas filler on the top of the trunk. LOL Since replacing that, the car is fine again. Now, I am going to give you the full run down on the car, the good, bad and ugly. The photos and video show all thats going on with it Full disclosure . This description is based on me as the owner, not a mechanic, findings having owned the car for 3 years. So, there could be problems with the car that are not evident to me just by driving it. But you will find my description thorough and honest. For that reason, the car is sold as is, no warranty, no returns, refunds or any other nonsense. You bid on it and win, you pay for it and own it. I can hep with shipping, only to recommend shippers i have used to buy cars with in the past. This is a once every 3-5 years car buying/selling thing, I dont do it for a living thank goodness. The car runs great, has great pick up and mileage per gallon premium. . The bad; ENGINE ISSUES: when the car starts it has a knock. I have been told its a sticky lifter. Once the car is driven or is warmed up the noise goes away. It comes back when idling for a long period. Rev it a little and it goes away. I used a thinner grade oil as suggested on google and it helped some. Diagnosis, sticky lifter. See videos for more detailed info, you can hear for yourself. Brakes - working but soft, they need attention. No leaks though, in fact there are no engine leaks of any kind. OTHER ISSUES; Sunroof; Is off its track and does not operate. If it rains hard and long enough ( needs to be a lot) it will leak a little. A more skilled person than me could fix this. Front right blinker, not working. Tests indicate its in the wiring at the lamp but have never been able to find where. All others work, as do all lights, windows Trunk button; electronic opener sticks, so key is sometimes needed to open the trunk - but the keyless entry does work with new battery in fob Rear driver door handle broken. See photo. $75 replaces that. I have seen lots on ebay. Antenna; Some A***hole kids bent it right at base. See photo. Amazingly, it still retracts and works. I have also included a replacement antenna motor i never got around to installing. Its in the trunk. Bodywork; some rust spots showing through on corners -- See photos. Also front right has a small parking lot at store slight push in. Again, see photos Washer; Washer motor works, wiper works, but dont ask me why, when i bought the car, there was no washer fluid bottle. I found this out weeks after buying the car so had no recourse. Seat memory: resets to the furthest setting each time. Dont know why. But, all aspects of power seats do work. Tires; fairly new with good tread left, see photos. NOTE: spare tire is shot and needs replaced. Rim is perfect shape. Overall the car does need some work but for a 12 year old car its doing well. I have not put much time and effort into the issues as i have been busy working. Now I had to decide to either fix the issues or buy newer, which I did, a newer one. Jaguar XJ8 is powered by a 4.0L V8 engine and an electronically controlled automatic transmission w/OD/normal/sport modes. It shifts perfectly, no noise or any other bother. Power tilt/sliding moon roof ** see above for description Power front seats w/power lumbar/driver memory ** see above for description Leather wrapped power tilt/telescoping multi-function steering wheel - works in all regards. Power windows Remote keyless entry w/central locking - works on one key fob not the other. Both need new batteries, but the keyless entry works on one. 2 sets keys 2 keyless entry fobs. Vehicle security system w/immobilizer - standard alarm as comes with Jaguar.. Works Automatic climate control - Works Premium audio w/cassette - Works see video Tinted glass, dark but legal, but going to miss it, cant see in from sides. Auto-dimming rear view mirror - that thing has never worked on any jag i ever owned. I wish they would find one that does. It dims a bit but not enough Dual halogen headlights w/fog lights - Xeon bulbs in headlights, all lights work, spare bulbs also provided for headlights Power heated exterior mirrors - Works Driver/front passenger airbags - never had to try them LOL but they are there if ever needed. Interior needs a clean but there are no rips or tears in the seats. There is signs of wear mostly in the drivers seat, but overall in good shape, standard for car of this age.
