For sale is a 1997 Mercury Cougar. This car was in excellent condition...until it had a meeting with a light pole three weeks ago. We bought it at the end of last summer, put an engine in it, and after 1100 miles, our daughter had an accident. She hit the pole with the left front fender, hard enough to bend the hood, and push the hood into the right front fender. The left shock tower was pushed toward the engine. The brake booster,master cylinder, and overflow bottle were damaged. The tie rods were bent. The radiator and battery were damaged. I have a copy of the estimate from the Ford bodyshop. The engine was replaced in September. It has about 100,000 miles on it. The engine still runs smoothly. The transmission shifts properly but has a slight leak at the front seal. The rearend runs well and has independent rear axles. From the windshield back the car is in excellent condition. The leather interior is in very good condition. Everything works properly. The wheels weren't damaged and the tires have more than 80% of the tread left on them. There is no rust on the car and the paint and clearcoat looks good for a 14 year old car. The airbags did not deploy and the title is clear. The estimate was $6000. The car is fixable but I already have $3000 into it. It would make an excellent parts car or a bodyman could fix it for a lot less. It's valued at about $2800. There is no reserve.
