Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very nice 1952 Chevy 5 window truck. It's not very often you find one of these big trucks in such great shape. Most have been worked hard and beat around the farm. This truck is either a great low miles truck or has had the motor and tranny totally gone through. The motor runs like an atomic watch and will start right up in 10 or 110 degree weather. The transmission shifts as smoothly as a new pick up right off the line. I was surprised to find out that it had syncros and that they worked like new. Also the two speed axle works properly and so does the two speed gearbox on the speedo. Everything else on the dash also works. Generator is freshly rebuilt, heat works really well, windshield is new as is the rubber around it. The cooling system stays clean and there are no cooling issues, always runs in the middle of the gauge no matter the weather. The oil pressure stays in the middle of the gauge with the motor fully warmed up. I also did a compression check witch was about 5psi better than stock, between that and the great oil pressure I am assuming the engine was rebuilt. Brakes and vacuum assist work very well, strong and no pulling side to side, no fluid leaks brakes or anyplace else. Slight bit of play in the steering but hardy worth mentioning, my 96 truck has way more. Everything else like tie rod, king pins, spring hangers, ect. are very tight and the truck drives very nicely but remember it does not have modern shocks so you will feel the bumps. That's not a real big issue seeing how the truck really only wants to go 40-50mph. The stake sides are new, the bed wood is very recent and the metal frame of the bed is the original. The truck was fully restored a few years back but allowed to sit out for some short time by the last owner and it took its toll on the paint. I repainted the truck and found very little wrong with the body. It had a few little holes in the cab corners and fenders but nothing too bad and I worked metal into all those spots so a magnet will stick anyplace. I also painted the inner fender wells but in the pictures you can see the need a post paint job clean up. It really looks very sharp and the paint job only has 30 miles on it. The picture with the truck on my semi (not for sale) is pre-repaint and as you can see I can help you haul it but it wouldn't be cheap, figure $1.60 a mile and no more than 900miles but call me first. The interior in the truck is also in very nice shape and I think it's been a while since Old Red got a ride to town in this truck. The last two owners only used it for parades and the last owner put a ladder on the back so you could easily get the kids in the bed. The ladder however isn't painted and shows some very very light rust, might even polish off. No other rust anywhere. The worst thing on the truck is the tire condition and I added a picture to show they are cracking. They have plenty of tread and since the truck is rather slow they are fine for local driving but they are holding it back from being a show quality truck. Also the door glasses both are cracked, if you add $100 to the final price I will replace both. The rest of the glass is good and clear. I can't say enough how well this truck runs and drives! I'm only selling because I think its too slow and don't want to push it. I had an International KB 5 I was in love with that was 10-15mph faster than this truck...thought I could replace it with this Chevy but it's just not a match. I'm selling at no reserve but please do not bid if you don't fully intend to buy, costs me time and money. I have tried to represent the truck as best as possible so there are no surprises, I hate going to pick up a car that the pictures and description have misrepresented, that’s not the case here and feel free to ask any questions. I reserve the right to end the auction early due to local sale. If you are local and want to come see the truck please do or send an independent inspector. Thanks, Happy Bidding! On Feb-19-11 at 14:06:32 PST, seller added the following information: Also have a 1957 Studebaker Silver Hawk selling at no reserve on here!On Feb-19-11 at 15:13:23 PST, seller added the following information: The truck is a 1951, don't know where I got 52 from. Title/registration says 51 too. Sorry for my mistake. Measurements for hauling: The truck is 22' 4" long 8'5" wide at the mirrors 6'9" tall at the cab but the ladder is another about 1' taller but you could put it down or remove it and stow it in the bed...bed is 7'6" wide and about the same as the wheels.
