Chevrolet was kind enough to provide us with a brief look at a pilot-model 1989 Corvette equipped not with the quadcam LT5 engine of the ZR1 Corvette but featuring the new 6-speed manual transmission and Delco/Bilstein Selective Ride Control. Designed jointly by ZF and Corvette engineers, the new transmission requires far less effort to shift than the Doug Nash 4 + 3 transmission it replaces. While not exactly delicate in feel, it's amazingly smooth, light and precise considering it can endure the full 400 lb-ft of the LT5. With the L98 5.7-liter engine, acceleration to 60 mph takes 6.6 seconds, and the quarter-mile marker rushes past in 14.8 sec at 96.5 mph. The 0-60 number seems slow, probably because the 2-3 shift has to be made prior to reaching 60 mph; the last Corvette tested reached that speed in 2nd gear. At 65 mph in 6th gear, the tachometer shows a leisurely 1600 rpm, just the ticket for relaxed cruising on the straight and level. Although the L98 engine makes close to 250 bhp at 4000 rpm, a Lawn Boy riding mower would be more responsive at these low revs. A downshift or two is in order to move around traffic with any alacrity. Now the bad news. Here we feel compelled to use a 4-letter word: CAGS. It's an acronym, really, that stands for Computer-Aided Gear Selection, and the best thing about it is that it goes unnoticed most of the time. Under light-throttle conditions (when puttering along at 12-19 mph), a computer-controlled solenoid actuator blocks out 2nd gear. When you pull back on the gearshift trying for 2nd, the system guides the lever into 4th. The resultant shortshift leaves you in this tall gear at about 20 mph at 1000-1100 rpm, a sad state of affairs. But take heart, speed fiends: A heavy right foot will override the system entirely; just make sure you're going more than 19 mph in 1st and it will allow shifts to be accomplished in the normal manner. Optional for 1989 is the new Delco/Bilstein Selective Ride Control, available on cars equipped with the Z51 handling option and the 6-speed transmission. By turning a console-mounted switch to one of three modes — Touring, Sport or Competition — shock damping and thus ride quality are altered. Ride quality using the Competition setting is on par with the Z51 package, stiff and jiggly, whereas the Touring setting — much easier on the collective editorial tush — was our choice for freeway runs. Through the frenetic zigzag of the slalom, we could feel no difference between the modes; this was borne out by near-identical speeds averaging an impressive 64.2 mph. Driving on canyon roads, the Competition setting telegraphed an extra sense of surefootedness and handling crispness. The open road beckons
There are not many survivors in this condition for 22 years old.
There is light crazing of the paint around the license plate. You have to get within 18 inches to even see it.
Look at the 1998-1999 Covette wheels.
Price them out at over $250 per wheel including sales tax.
They are flawless.
17 inch wheels in front with 18" wheels in rear
The view most drivers get to see.
Put the top down and enjoy.
Looking across from the drivers door
Brand new Uniroyal OEM radials all around 245 fronts and 275 rears.
Another $1,000 in tires. As I said "The original opwners spared no expenses to enjoy their car.
Top of the line!
Brand new!

A close up of the nose.
Looking in at the dash cover. The dash underneath is perfect other than to remove the glue.
The power plant is Chevrolet 250 hp that appears very well maintained. And it has warranty!
Everything appears to be GM oem parts. And it has warranty!
About as spotless as any 1989 Corvette I have seen in the last 10 years and it has a warranty!
the drivers sport bucket has no rip or tears.
The drivers seat and carpeting.
Seat back of drivers seat.
Another view of drivers seat.
The seat pad. I took a few pictures as you just don\'t se all original 1989 seats in this condition.
The steering wheel and dash.
Looking across the interior from drivers door.
Looking across the dash from the pasenger door.
The passenger floor and carpeting.
The center console. Yes, the wood trim is spectacular!
The ZF 6 speed shifter. Notice the shift ball condition. It must just must have been replaced. The car will sometimes come out of first gear on soft accelleration. I would think the synchro's will need to be done in the next 6 months. There are no issues while shifting. (I received the following message from a fellow eBayer) Dear dad61898,
I have a suggestion on the cags delemina. being as you went into such detail to explain it. Reach up on the transmission housing and unplug it. it will shift like a muncie 4 speed. i know. i have an 89 conv 6 speed and thats what i did.
Don
All the readouts work.
Another view of dash and interior from passenger side.
Hard to believe that this vehicle was only driven an average of 4,900 miles a year!
Someone is buying a one of a kind Coe. Do you deserve the very best?"

IT HAS A POWER TRAIN WARRANTY
Tilt and telescopic steering wheel.
Bose radio and climate controls are very clear and easily accessed by driver and pasenger.
