Vehicle Detail
Own a Baby Ferrari, the Fiat Dino Spyder!! I obtained this car from a California collector who had owned it since 1988. As with most Dino's it was originally sold in Italy and then imported to the U.S. I don't know how much time it spent in Italy, there is still a small "Croce Rossa Italiana" (Italian Red Cross) sticker on the lower dash that shows its provenance is definitely from Italy. This car is the early Dino with the Ferrari 206 2.0 L V-6 engine. The interior is a "Series 1" type if you are a Dino aficionado. (Mostly just the format of the dash). The engine number on the car is 135B 000 000657. If you happen to be unfamiliar with the Dino, here is some background information on the specs of the Fiat Dino Spider from the carsfromitaly.net website. The Turin Motorshow of 1966 saw the introduction of the 'Fiat Dino Spider'. A body designed and built by Pininfarina was powered by an engine based on a Ferrari competition engine. The venture was born from the necessity (for F2 competition) for Ferrari to use an engine derived from a homologated production car of which at least 500 had been built in the last 12 months. That engine was a quad cam V6 of 1987cc producing 160bhp. The first quad cam engine in a production Fiat, it was all alloy with a four bearing crank and semi-wet cylinder liners. Each cylinder featured two valves and one spark plug, but used a narrower than normal valve angle (46deg). Drive to all four camshafts was by duplex chain. Fueling was by three Weber twin 40DCNF carburetors. Drive was through a five speed gearbox (actually a four speed box with reverse and fifth-gear in a separate casting added on), two-piece propshaft and a limited slip differential in the live rear axle. A relatively simple leaf spring and live axle rear suspension was used, whilst the front suspension used a conventional double wishbone layout. Braking was by ventilated discs on all wheels, using Girling calipers (made under license by Fiat). The body was an all steel unitary construction spider. As well as the identical wheelbase, there are several similarities with structural panels of the 124 Spider, also built by Pininfarina. Internally it was moderately well equipped, with a full set of instruments (speedo, revcounter plus coolant and oil temperature, oil pressure and fuel level), two front seats accompanied by an 'occasional use' rear seat and an easily operated manual fabric roof. It was fully restored about 5 years ago. After obtaining this car from California, we have completely gone through every system on the car, re-restoring various items, including a new paint job. We performed the following work on the car: TRIM Bumpers, windshield pillars and surrounds, grille, light bases, emblems, door handles, and headlight surrounds were all removed, polished and buffed. New front side marker light assemblies installed. The grille was actually taken apart and polished. Original Fiat jack placed in trunk with spare tire. ENGINE Compression tests were done on all cylinders, tested out good. Brand new timing chain. Cams were inspected and were within spec. New air filter, new valve cover gasket. The radiator and heater core were completely cleaned, flushed and painted. New plus, wires, points, condensers. All new cooling and vacuum hoses and belts, including hoses to heater core. The gas tank was cleaned, the sender unit was cleaned. New fuel lines from gas tank to fuel pump. New oil filter. Carburetors rebuilt, including new needles, seats, floats, and gaskets. TRANSMISSION AND SUSPENSION The transmission, drive train and suspension were completely gone through. New clutch and slave cylinders installed. Rear differential inspected, fluid topped off. New right and left front upper and lower ball joints. New left and right inner and outer tie rods. New center link also installed. New upper and lower shock absorber bushings on the Koni shocks. ELECTRICAL New battery and cables. Alternator output checked and is good. All gauges and electricals work, except the dash clock. New flasher unit, new headlight rheostat, new front side marker light assemblies. Car is equipped with an electric retractable telescopic antenna on left rear fender which works. Car is wired to have cd/radio player (speaker wires only extend to sides of car under the dash). This car does not have the Dinoplex, which came on later versions, it has a "Delta Electronio"electronic ignition. INTERIOR Completely cleaned and retreated the nearly new vinyl seats, dash, and door panels. Completely stripped all carpet and inspected floor which was in excellent shape. Treated metal floor with metal conditioner, then installed new carpet pads and a new carpet kit. All interior handles were removed and polished and buffed. The door panels were removed and all the door window mechanisms and latches were cleaned and relubed. A new driver's side sun visor is on back order and will be installed prior to purchase. Lubed all seat tracks. Installed all new rubber weatherstripping on doors and trunk. BRAKES All the rotors were turned and new brake pads installed. Brake lines all inspected, no leaks. EXTERIOR The old paint job the on car was completely stripped to metal. This car is super straight. The only location of historical metal repair was about 4-8 inch area on the front passenger fender at the headlight. The hood had metal repair where someone had cut a rectangular area and apparently installed some sort of fake spoiler type scoupe. After stripping and prep, the car was primered and painted with a base coat/clear coat acrylic urethane, with the color attempting to match the Fiat 120 Corso Rosso paint color which was the original color (we used Martin Seymor #60991, Code 566 Guards Red). A brand new canvas soft top cover was installed. The soft top frame rear base bracket is brand new, wood on the rear back frame is also brand new. The soft top frame was cleaned and painted. All the glass on the car is in excellent shape, no scratches. The underbody on the car was scraped and wire brushed where needed, and coated with a rubberized undercoat. All the chrome on the entire car was removed, buffed and polished, in excellent shape. There is a small hole drilled in the rear bumper, presumably to mount some sort of light. There is a 1/4 inch woodpecker ding in the rear bumper as well, not very noticeable. The tires are near new, they are 215 60R 14 Valken FK-06U tires. The spare has some wear, but still OK. The knock-offs were cleaned and buffed. Hood latch assembly was cleaned and lubed. FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES GO TO PHOTOBUCKET AT http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg198/piccione11/Fiat%20Dino%202011/ The car runs, drives, and shifts great. This car is great fun to drive and always gets attention! The car has a valid Utah title certificate, titled in my dealership name. Odometer reading shown in the auction is the miles equivalent of the kilometers shown on the car (92225 kilom.) Many parts for this car, if ever needed, are available at Superperformance in the UK and DinoParts in Germany, and some other locations online. As with all vintage cars, I cannot warrant odometer readings. I am a licensed and bonded car dealer and vintage car restorer in the State of Utah, Piccione's, #5869, which is important if you are financing the car through your bank, as dealer issued sales typically get lower interest rates than person to person sales. Financing may also available through eBay or some other online sources. Buyer pays for shipping (I can help arrange transport if you like, I have some cheap connections for various parts of the country). I highly recommend closed carrier transport, putting this vehicle on an open carrier opens up the risk of drippage from other vehicles and wind damage. Payment may be by certified bank check or money order, by wire transfer to bank account, or by loan check or personal check once cleared. Paypal is only acceptable through verified accounts for the initial deposit only. The buyer will submit a 5% of purchase price deposit within 72 hours of the close of the auction to secure the vehicle by PayPal or other verifiable payment method unless this requirement is waived by the seller after the auction end. Buyer agrees to pay the remaining balance due within 7 days of the close of the auction. All financial transactions must be completed before delivery of the vehicle. Based on the age of the car I cannot warrant odometer readings. As all vintage cars I sell, I cannot warrant specific year, make and model. The car is available for inspection. Please remember that an eBay bid is a binding legal contract, not just some intention to consider purchase. Buyer is responsible (if applicable) for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered in. Vehicle is sold as is and does not have warranty.
