Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a very nice 1957 Studebaker Silver Hawk that has only had three owners since new. The car was first sold as a used car in 1960 to the second owner who drove it as his daily driver until 2010. This gentleman was known as the "Studebaker Man" in his area and when I first bought the car I proceeded to fill up my truck at the local gas station where several people came up to me and bluntly asked "what are you doing with Edds car"? Even the local cops showed up to make sure this small Arkansas town local wasn't being stolen. After that I became the new owner of this cherished little car. I intended to use it as my daily driver and even did so for a few weeks on my dealer tag. However I fell in love with another car that I ended up putting 50K miles on in the last year and none on the Studebaker. In the past year while I have not been driving the car much, I have been working on it. I repainted the car (been told that makes 4 repaints since new) and replaced the carpet, new regulator, rebuilt generator and a few odds and ends like horn buttons, emblems, knobs and such. The car is now at the point where I don't use it and am kinda afraid to and take my shoes off to get in. Although the paint and interior look quite sharp, it's not a show car. The chrome leaves a little to be desired and the underneath has grease and would need cleaned and painted to be show quality. When painting the car I was very impressed with how solid it was. The gentleman who had it must have always kept good paint on it and never wrecked it. You will not be displeased with the metal on this car as it is solid everywhere and only has a little surface rust underneath. Please be aware of the term surface rust, this is more like a lack of paint and a slight oxidation than anything else. All the doors and panels line up quite wonderfully. The car has working A/C and heated seats and modern radio with working retractable antenna. The ride is smooth and with the 3 on the tree and overdrive (works) it gets 25-30mpg depending on if your in a hurry (fully capable of highway speeds). The tires are radials with plenty of tread but are for driving and not showing due to style and wear (no dryrot or cracks). Brakes work very well and do not pull one way or the other, clutch feels good. Snycros are not in the best shape and the stearing box is a little loose. It's not undrivable or anything and the pitman arm, tie rods and wheel joints are all in good shape but it's similar to driving a Model A ford. A gearbox is a simple bolt in job and was something I just never got around to. The 289 V8 motor runs well and the oil stays clean (has had oil changes religiously all its life I've been told). I do think one lifter could use replaced as I heard a tapping sound today when I first started it up. Don't remember that noise in the summer and it probably could use some winter oil. The car has a modern Elderbrock carb and electronic ignition that seem to work well but I would rather the car be original. Coolant stays clean and the car does not overheat. All the lights and bells and wistles seem to work with the exception of the speedometer which works but reads lower than actual. The whole car had cheap stick on tinted windows which I have removed all of except the rear window if you notice lines in the pictures of the rear window. I have tried to take lots of pictures to be straight forward and the car has nothing to surprise you but I hate going to get a car that has been misrepresented. Feel free to ask me any questions or call me to come see the car in person. The car is also going to be for sale on gettysburghistoricautocompany.com so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Car is sold as is where is but can help with shipping or hauling but call for a quote first. Please don't bidd to come take a look or if you don't have the money! Otherwise, Happy Bidding
