Vehicle Detail
I am a 40 year Corvair enthusiast having owned 100'S of the little jewels! Recent setbacks in my diminishing real estate empire combined with a new way of living with less, leads me to further reduce my Corvair collection. This car is one of the last Corvairs that I purchased and it is not really a family member like the others that I plan to retain. I paid $10,000 for this car several years ago when money was running freely. The car has been stored in my warehouse where it was run on a regular basis but rarely driven. In oder to get the car ready for sale I found the need to completely rebuild the rear suspension with springs, shocks and bushings as well as a new battery and generator. I have driven it recently around 100 miles on streets as well as highways and it performs as it should. The engine was rebuilt prior to my ownership and has good power and the Turbo does it job well. The clutch and transmission are smooth and front end is tight and the tires are practically new. As far as the body goes, I will say that it is 99% rust free and I will guarantee that! The body is strait as a string and all openings are straight and tight. The chrome and stainless are very nice and the glass is all clear. The tinted windshield has one wiper scratch on the passenger side and should polish out. The paint is an older professional lacquer re-spray with lots of depth although there are several spots where it has flaked (around the antenna and on the center seam of the rear hood), the color is Desert Beige. The Light Fawn interior has excellent upholstery on the seats, doors and rear panels. The dash although not awful, has a few splits with some warping, and the original headliner has a seam at the rear that has come loose. I would say that the headliner should be replaced. The carpet is nice although it is the wrong color. The steering wheel is one of the best two tone wheels that I have ever seen. The interior chrome and dash have some pitting but it probably about average. Overall this a very nice, clean, sharp and solid car that could be a daily driver with a little piddling. I retain the right to end this auction early if someone make me a good offer. Don't worry, I don't expect to get anything near the price I paid, as it was not accurately represented to me. Please email with questions but don't wear me out with questions about things that have been already described in the listing. Thanks for looking and reading. On Jan-08-11 at 23:10:37 PST, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention, there are no oil leaks! On Jan-12-11 at 11:43:57 PST, seller added the following information: Hello Corvair lovers, I seem to have a viewer who questions my knowledge of Corvair's and thinks I have made inaccurate statements. Please see the questions and answers below. I would like to know if there are others who think I have made inaccurate statements, if so please let me know. I am not to old to learn and for sure I want to represent the car I am selling in a truthful manner. On Jan-14-11 at 18:52:42 PST, seller added the following information: FYI ! The past few days while starting the car, the starter is acting up. Also my mechanic informed me today that we cleaned the fuel tank and installed a new sending unit a while back. Also, the paint color is the original color and the car has its original date coded engine. Thanks
