The first 420SL model was first introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show with the newly developed V-8 engine of 218 DIN horsepower to replace the 380SL model first marketed in 1980. Basically the cars were the same in performance and 107 body style, the 420SL had some refinements. The 218 horsepower has the same output as that of the former--gave the new car top speed of 213 km/hr (144 mph) and a 0 to 100 km acceleration time of 9 seconds, again about the same as the 380SL. The total production from 1985 to 1989 was 2,148. I am the second ower of this car and have owned it since 2003. The car has not been on the road since 1991. It is in running condition, but needs to be completed. The VIN number is WDB1070471A037588.
