This is a 1999.5 Cabrio MK 3.5 not a 1999 Cabrio MK3. The Volkswagen Golf Mk3 Cabrio (or Typ 1E) was introduced in 1993. It was face-lifted in late 1999 with the front, rear, and steering wheel styling from the Golf MK 4 while still maintaining the body from the MK 3 Cabrio. These Cabrios are often referred to as the Mk3.5 Cabrios. Great little convertible. Lots of extras!!! New shocks and struts, 5 new tires, custom interior w/ blue led's , new distributor, 2.5" custom exhaust, in dash cd w/ 6 disc changer in trunk. 3 Integrated 12 volt power outlets plus integrated usb power outlet. Keyless entry, remote start and alarm. Comes with ipod touch. Needs a vertical controll arm bushing. The parts cost about $12 and about 1 hour labor. This is an 11 year old car in need of minor repairs. I am willing to have all repairs done when the sale is completed. Why is a 1999.5-2002 Cabrio known as "3.5"? The chassis is A3, but the look is designed to match mk4. Because it's not completely a mk3, and not completely mk4, many people refer to it as mk3.5. In Europe, it was known as the mk4 Cabrio. What parts are specific to the mk3.5 Cabrio? The fenders, bumpers, hood, trunklid, and radiator support are unique to the mk3.5 Cabrio. What parts do the mk3.5 Cabrio and mk4 Golf share? The mk3.5 Cabrio uses mk4 Golf headlights, side marker lights and bumper marker lights. What about the steering wheel and shifter knob? Those are mk4 too, right? No. The steering wheel and shifter knob are mk3-fitment parts modified to look like mk4 parts. Are model year 1999 Cabrios mk3 or mk3.5? 1999 is a split model year for the Cabrios, so some model year 1999 Cabrios are mk3, and some are mk3.5.
