Vehicle Detail
I am re-listing this auction for the CAR ONLY, as the car with the parts package did not sell. I have lowered my reserve considerably to reflect that. You are bidding on a rare and super collectible 1962 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop M-Code coupe. This car is currently featured on the cover page of the “Thunderbird Registry” website found at http://www.tbirdregistry.com/. It is Thunderbird Registry Car No. 3395. This car was originally purchased by an industrialist in the Portland, Oregon, area in 1962. During the mid-60's the original owner decided he would prefer a 4-barrel carburetor (as opposed to the tri-power originally installed on car) and replaced the high performance engine with a mid-60's 390 and a 4-barrel (you will see further in the description and photos that I have since replaced the carburetor with a 1962 correct Autolite 4100 carburetor rebuilt by Pony Carburetors). In 1991 the original owner sold the car to a real estate investor who lived in Portland, Oregon, who kept the car in storage until my purchase in early 2010. This car, one of a very limited number produced, was originally reported to the Thunderbird Registry by William Wonder–but it’s location/ownership was not recorded until I made contact with The Registry earlier this year. This car is Sandshell Beige in color with a Pearl White interior and is in running/driving condition with nearly new Michelin radial tires and a mid-60's 390 4-barrel engine. I have gone to great lengths and expense to put the car in running condition, as well as to locate and obtain the rare components that can make this car a true M-Code car (these components will be sold separately). Body- and interior-wise, the car is solid. It is relatively rust-free, with the exception of two small areas indicated and shown in photos. The underside is undercoated and solid. The trunk interior has surface rust, but nothing through-and-through. The interior is what you might expect of a car that has not had its interior replaced in 48 years–there are some tears and the dash has some fading and cracking. As far as hardware, it is original and complete. At this time the car has bumpers that are in poor condition, but I have acquired and am including in this sale a complete pair of front and rear bumpers which are in excellent condition. In order to make this a good running, driving car, I have installed the following within the last two months: all new belts and hoses, a Concourse rebuilt ‘62 Autolite 4100 carburetor, rebuilt power steering pump and hoses, a new correct Motorcraft battery and cables, a new solonoid, new plugs, distributor cap and wires and new points. All filters and fluids have been changed. Please see photos of engine compartment–it speaks for itself. Correct numbers are as follows:1962 Thunderbird M-Code HardtopSerial No. 2Y83M140156Mileage 24,100 (probably 124,222)Trim Tag Numbers: Body - 63A (hardtop) Color - T (Sandshell Beige) Trim - 54 (Pearl White) Build Date - 31A (January 31, 1962) Axle - 1 (3.00) Trans - 4 (Cruise-O-Matic) This car is meant for a Thunderbird lover. You have probably already read from various sources that this car is a sleeper that will be making a huge increase in desirability within the next five-to-ten years. Although there has been some debate on exactly how many of these M-Code hardtop vehicles were produced (William Wonder claims there are 25-45, and Alan Tast believes there are many more), we know they are difficult to find today. If you are looking for a car to drive today, and turn into an absolute treasure–look no further. If you would like additional information on this car, or have any questions for me, please phone me at 314 353-7235 or email me at just4papa@yahoo.com or thru ebay and include your phone number. I will be happy to return any and all calls. Payment for this vehicle must be in the form of cash, a Bank Cashier’s Check–which must clear BEFORE car is moved, or PayPal. Good Luck! PLEASE NOTE: Additional M-Code parts NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SALE, but that will be available via SEPARATE AUCTION include: correct date appropriate engine, heads, exhaust manifolds and complete rebuilt tri-power set-up
