Vehicle Detail
This is a 1979 Diesel Toyota Landcruiser HJ45; eBay would not recognize the VIN# HJ45034701, which is registered with the DMV in the State of Oregon. My wife and I own this vehicle free and clear. I imported this LWB Toyota Landcruiser over three years ago from Australia. It's an awesome rig. I purchased it from the original owner. It's a right hand drive. It seats 11 people and all the rear jump seats fold up (see photos). The rear side windows open. It is rated as a 1 ton vehicle. The roof and sides are removable (though I never took them off). This Landcruiser has low miles 139,000KM or close to only 86,000 miles. This year I upgraded the engine from the original H diesel to a completely rebuilt 2H diesel engine I also imported from Australia. The 2H is a stronger engine. It has a four speed manual transmission. I've put just over 6,000 miles on it since having it installed and it has run great. It has a completely rebuilt fuel injection pump. It does not smoke. These rigs were designed for back roads and rough terrain. While it drives fine in the city, it wasn't designed to be a freeway fast lane machine (you'll want to bid on a sports car for that). While it can go 65 MPH and probably faster, I have kept it at 55 MPH tops. If someone wanted to upgrade it to a 5 speed transmission you could pull more out of it. I had a fuel filter system installed so it can run on anything from B99 biodiesel to regular diesel. It seems to run smoother and quieter on the biodiesel. (It could even run on straight veg oil in warmer weather with the current filter/fuel heater system). The specs I've found on this particular model and engine say it can get up to 25 MPG. I have not tracked it that close, but one full tank lasts me a long time. I am comfortable saying I've gotten over 20 MPG. It has an extra fuel tank with a pump that moves fuel into the main tank. The pump isn't hooked up at the moment, but it worked the last time I used it. I had an after market fan installed (see photo) and upgraded with new back seat belts and put on European LC side mirrors. I also had the lower bench seat upholstery for both the front and rear seats replaced due to age and left the upper backrest portion original upholstery since it was in good shape. There is a slight difference in the tone of grey color since the original LC color is no longer available, but no one seems to notice. The paint inside and out is all original. I purchased some touch up paint and had it applied to areas where the original paint had worn off. If you look close up at the rig you can see the touch up areas mostly on the front hood (rock chips and weather ware) and driver side door area and rear exterior door area. While it's a beautiful Landcruiser, it is not perfect and it has not ever been fully restored. Its over 30 years old and the driver side floor cover is worn through, the seals/gaskets on the doors could be replaced, there are small dings (mainly on the back area) you can see up close. There is one small (size of a dime rock chip in the windshield) and other small imperfections due to age (no big dents and no body rust through). I left all the bull bars on, but they can easily be removed. The air filter is an aftermarket the original owner had installed. I have the stock engine compartment air filter case and I had thought of putting a snorkel on. You have choices! It has what appears to be an after market air conditioner which I never used and I don't believe it is hooked up. All and all this is a classic model hard to find Landcruiser in nearly all original condition with a completely professional rebuilt Toyota 2H engine with really low miles. Tires are well worn, but no thread is showing. We have had a lot of fun with this rig: camping, road trips, going high into the mountains and more. I am really going to miss this rig... It is by far the best and most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned. The only reason I am selling is to help support a business my wife recently started. If our ship ever comes in- as they say, I may track you down and try to buy it back. Everyone who sees it says it's the best or one of the best Landcruiser's they've ever seen and I hear often "where did you get this- I love it!” A full restoration would put it over the top. I've had many notes left on the windshield over the years asking if I want to sell it. I'll be calling those people this weekend to let them know if they're still interested they can log onto eBay to bid on it. On Dec-06-10 at 18:37:21 PST, seller added the following information: Something was cut off on my last response to the last question asked due to a limitation on characters allowed by eBay. There are no rust issues other than the small areas of paint worn off I mentioned in my first response. Here is a few other items I think are worth pointing out: The rear license plate light is disconnected. The heat blows but it doesn’t make the truck interior really warm when it’s really cold outside. I mentioned in the description all the door molding/gaskets that are suppose to keep the cold air out or heat in could be replaced. They are all original and worn in areas. This is an older vehicle and I can’t guarantee anything. I just drove it up to Mt. Hood yesterday 12/5/2010 for skiing and it was great. I should add it doesn’t climb freeway/highway hills fast. You sometimes have to get in the slow lane when the road grade is really steep. Other than it being chilly from the cold air, everything worked great up and down the mountain. I stress this is an old vehicle with no new gadget frills. It’s just an amazing rig. Thanks for asking questions!! On Dec-10-10 at 22:02:36 PST, seller added the following information: I have been trying to switch out two or three photos on this my listing to post photos of underneath the Land Cruiser. eBay has an issue with their editing program and has been trying to resolve it all week. They thought it would be resolved by today and its not. If you'd like to see photos of underneath drive line, fuel tank and etc, please send me an email address and I will send them to you. I will add that the underbody is in great shape and has never been detailed. The protective coat has done well and is only worn off in some areas. Looks great. Thanks.
