Vehicle Detail
You are viewing an exceptionally nice example of a 1976 VW Tin Roof Westfalia from Southern California that has had only two owners her entire life. We are only the second registered owner of this wonderful Westy that has spent her entire life in sunny Southern California. In fact she has spent her entire life of thirty-four years in the county of San Diego. She was sold new on September 21, 1976 by John Factor Volkswagen in Lemon Grove Ca within San Diego County, Our oldest son will be leaving for college soon and along with our savings, academic and sports scholarship this wonderful Westy will help pay for some of his tuition too. While we are not quite empty nester's yet it sure going to feel like it in the garage. We sincerely hope the next owner will take the same pride in our Tin Roof as we and the original owner did in her! Our garage kept 1976 Volkswagen Tin roof Westy turns heads everywhere we take her. When we first purchased her from the original owner it was quite amazing. She was sitting in a eight car garage of a multi-million dollar home here in San Diego County parked next to a BMW M5, a Lamborghini and a vintage Ferrari on the other with a few other high end cars. The original owner only used her to drive a few miles each way to the beach when the surf was up! We acquired her with very low miles. While on our watch we have used her only for weekend excursions or trips to the beach. Based off the prior owner’s explanation and her condition we believe there is a very good chance she has yet to go over on the odometer. The color of our 1976 Volkwagen is pastel white upper with pale aqua blue lower. Her current paint is about five years old but she has plenty of paint and shine for years to come! The paint is full of luster and the reflection of objects in her is amazing. We are constantly receiving thumbs up while driving or wherever we have parked her when out and about. I really don’t think there has been a day when we had her out that we did not receive positive opinions on her! It is simply hard to believe the interior of our Tin Roof Westy is 34 years old. The original owner did not like the feel of vinyl seats so he elected to have the seats recovered about ten years ago in Leather, that’s right leather front seats in a VW camper! The leather front seat are in very good condition with excellent support and zero fade or ware on the hides! The rear seat-bed and rear cushion are done in a hound’s-tooth black white checker. They have minor imperfections. The original veneer headliner is still covered by its original contact surface and is in tack and free of stains and imperfections. There is a very slight bubble above the driver’s side sun visor but hardly noticeable and the ceiling is as clean as the day in left the factory. She also has never been smoke in and there are no signs of any tobacco products ever being used in her, simply zero funky odors! The carpets are all original and in excellent condition. The dash is free of any cracks. The interior door panels are nearly flawless. The front kick panels are new. The Westfalia wood veneer cabinets are in breathtaking condition with zero chips or separation. Everything works on the inside as well including ventilation controls, instrument lights, interior lights, running water and water tank. She is also equipped with the Westy ice box. All seat belts are present and fully functional. The floors are stunning underneath the carpet with barely any paint ware at all! Overall the interior is superb. Our head turning Volkswagen Westfalia Tin roof drives like a champ! She is equipped with four new matching 195/75 R14 radial tires with at least ninety percent tread life left. We recently did all new brakes front and rear, brake master cylinder and all new wheel bearings. Our wonderful Tin Roof drives great and has excellent performance. The front and rear shocks have less than 10,000 miles on them and the suspension feels terrific. All lights including hazard warning, turn signals, turn signal return switch, low beams, high beams, back up lights, tail lights, brake lights and license plate light all work correctly. Last year she passed her last required California smog test and the technician commented that she ran at only half the legal limits and that in itself is amazing for an air cooled VW of any kind. We still have the document. She drives down the road effortlessly at 70 mph! The coveted six rib transmission and clutch operate perfectly. The clutch grabs where it should and the transmission does not grind or pop out in any gear. The steering is tight, precise and free of play. She drives down the road in a straight line at any speed and never pulls to any side. Performance off the line or cruising is second to none. If you are familiar with the grade on Interstate 8 headed east from San Diego out to Alpine she cruises effortlessly up that big long grade from sea level to 3000 feet at 60+ MPH, She drives like a champion. The undercarriage is free of rust including battery trays, dog legs and all floors. The heater tube is still in cased in its original heat wrap in excellent condition. The heater flappers are closed right now so if you need heat you will need to open them. We have them closed frankly because she gets driven only in nice warm weather. The new owner will get a truly exceptional non restored drivers quality 1976 Volkswagen Tin Roof Westfalia. Our Westy is not a trailer queen, she has minor imperfections. She is simply an exceptional unique Type II that turns heads as we drive her or when she is parked in town along with the July 4th parade last summer here in town. Our VW Bus truly demonstrates "Pride of Ownership” and as I said in the beginning we sincerely hope the winning bidder will take the same pride we did in her.
