Vehicle Detail
Hello - This is a clean straight un-rusted, un-hit, unmolested 1983 GTI with 117k original. Though I'm not a VW guy, I bought it just because it was in such nice condition. Not perfect, but presentable in survivor condition, or a very complete, clean restoration candidate. Over the years it been parked in my lot, many VW enthusiasts have stopped by to remark on its condition and they tell me this is a highly sought after year. Unfortunately, that's about all the attention it's had for the last few years, and it doesn't look like I'll be bringing it into the building this winter either. Needs Work? What kind of work? Well here's the story: The transmission needs to be re-installed. Why was it taken out? Because the previous owner (a well regarded friend and mechanic) blew the transmission in his SCCA GTI. He used the transmission from this car for one race (and yes, it's still fine) but never put it back in the car. This was his daily driver, and received better than usual care and maintenance. The items I know will need attention are as follows: re-install transmission and starter, provide new battery, and check dormant systems for roadworthiness (it's been parked for about four years now), then drive. In addition to the complete transmission and all brackets, hardware, etc., there are many parts from a second white GTI included in the auction. Most are shown in the mass parts picture, but there are several boxes with VW only hardware, starters, boots, plastic and rubber hoses clearly intended for this car, but I'd rather not scatter them unless there's a specific part you need to know about. Please feel free to ask any question, or for specific photos, and I'll answer promptly. I believe that a GTI lover would want to have this car if only for its condition. No collision or rust repair, save for one push behind the drivers door; a fresh stock paint job and decals would be very rewarding. The car already looks nice, but a restoration to immaculate isn't a huge undertaking. Interior is all original, and in good condition save for the drivers seat cushion and one bolster; still original fabric, and the foam is fine. Even the carpet is nice. I am selling this car no matter what, hence the $9.99 No Reserve starting price. I do believe, however, that anyone who chooses the Buy it Now option at $1200 will be delighted to have this car. I can store it right back in the fenced lot it came out of, at no charge, if immediate transport doesn't fit in with your plan. Thanks for Looking! Dan Larson (303)475-2266
