Vehicle Detail
Although I've been street riding many years, I decided earlier this year that I wanted to begin to explore the dual-sport world. So I bought a bike that was capable of that & more... the R1200GS. Well, I've had it since May, and the bike everything they said it was. There's only one problem: I just can't get it to fit me. We all know that dual-sport & off-road bikes bikes usually have a taller seat height, and I've got a short legs. So I knew it wasn't going to be a perfect fit from the start. I went and took a few test rides on it, and I figured... "OK, great bike, I'm just going to have to make a few adjustments & modifications. No biggie... I've done that with every bike I've ever bought with no problems. Why should this be any different?" Well, so far I've purchased handlebar risers, wider footpegs, added grip puppies to the handlebars, added cruise pegs, and lots of other options... and I STILL just can't comfortable on it. My next step was going to be a custom seat... but I've got so much money into it now that I don't know if I want to spend any more. To that end, I've decided that... maybe the bike just isn't for me... and maybe I should sell it to someone who can appreciate it, and ride it the way it was intended to be ridden. The bike currently has 1730 miles on the odometer, but I'm still riding it occasionally. I've mainly been riding it back & forth to work while breaking it in & getting used to it. It has not yet been off road. However, in getting it ready to go off road... I removed the street tires that came with the bike, and have installed new TKC80 knobby tires. Both sets of tires will be included in the sale, and I will re-install the street tires on it if you like. Additionally, the bike has the following BMW options: Generation II of BMW's Integral Anti-Lock Brake System On-Board Computer Heated Grips Hand Protectors Electronic Suspension Adjustment System (ESA) BMW Vario Saddlebags BMW Engine Protection Bars BMW Engine Head Protectors Here's a list of optional & extra equipment that I've installed on the bike since new: BMW GS Adventure Windscreen BMW GS Adventure Fairing Winglets BMW GS Adventure Brake Pedal BMW GS Adventure Color-Matching Rider & Passenger Seats Touratech Headlight Protector & Glare Visor Strebel Horn Kit Illium Works Folding Cruise Pegs Touratech Adventure GPS mount Touratech CAN-BUS Auxiliary Fuse Block Touratech CAN-BUS Dual Auxiliary Power Ports Kisan CAN-BUS Headlight Modulator PIAA Powersport 540 ATP Auxiliary Lights Wunderlich Steering Stops Wunderlich Rear Underframe Bag AXIO Rear Case Camel Toe Sidestand Foot Enlarger Rear Frame Mud-Sling Protector Rear Master Cylinder Guard HYPER-LIGHTS Flashing LED Brake Lights. I'm sure there are a few other items I've forgotten to mention. Bottom line... I know that I'm going to take a loss on the bike. I paid a little over $15,000 for the bike... I've got well over $20,000 in it now already... and I'm just reluctant to spend more. Yes, I know that you can buy a new bike for less that I'm asking... but as soon as you buy saddlebags for it, you'll have spent more and you won't have any of the other extras I've already added. A couple of final notes: 1) I have the title marked as "Other" in the details summary because I still owe a little on the note for the bike. If the bike sells here, I will pay off the note and have a clear title for you. 2) The bike's original color was what BMW called "orange". To me, it looked like Gerber's Baby Food strained carrots. So I bought a complete set of new red panels from from BMW's 2010 model year bike, and replaced them on this bike. I still have the original panels, and they will be included with the sale. They are "bolt-on, bolt-off" items that can be swapped out in 15 minutes or less. I only mention this because the VIN code on the title will show the bike was not originally red, and I don't wish to hide anything. 3) Also included with the sale is the optional "Low Seat" that BMW sells for these bikes. It sits approximately 2 inches lower than the standard seat... and is all black. The bike is located on Long Island, and can be seen with an appointment. Just send me a message and we'll arrange a place & time. Now for the boring part: At the end of the auction, I will require a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $500.00 within 24 hours. For final payment, I will only accept cash or a certified bank check... will will need to be paid within 14 days of the end of the auction. Pick-up and/or delivery of the bike is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Unless other arrangements are agreed to, buyer should expect to pick up the bike from my location within 30 days of the completion of the auction. If you need the bike to be shipped, I have some experience with that and can help with the details. Additionally, if you live within a reasonable distance of Long Island (say 200 miles or so)... I have a truck & ramps, and may be able to deliver it to you for an additional fee. Failure to fulfill any of the above will void the sale. If you have any questions, feel free to send a message and ask. Thanks for your time. ADDITIONS: I have had a few questions in re the bike's mileage. I had originally put "under 3500 miles" because, as I was still riding it occasionally, I didn't know how many it would have at the time of sale. However I have now amended the add with the current mileage as of today (11/23). The odometer reads 1730 miles. That may go up a tad, as I still ride it at least once weekly to keep everything lubricated. Another thing I was asked about are the liners for the saddlebags. Yes, I have them... original BMW liners... and yes, they will be included with the sale. Thanks for your time. -------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: 11/24/10 I am getting follow-up questions as to the warranty issue, and I will try to address the issue here: The bike came with a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty. I as the original owner have that warranty. I don't know if BMW policy is to extend that warranty to a subsequent owner. If so, then there is a warranty on the bike that began on the purchase date of 5/1/10. However, if BMW policy is to NOT extend that warranty to a subvsequent owner... then the bike does not have a warranty. All I am saying is that I am not personally giving a warranty on the bike, and to check with BMW on that issue. Why am I stating this? I had a friend who sold a vehicle here on eBay last year. I don't recall the brand, but the vehicle had a similar type warranty... and he sold the vehicle with about 12 months and 8,000 miles left on the original warranty. A couple of months after the sale, the alternator went out on the vehicle. The new owner brought it to the dealer for warranty replacement, and the dealer would not honor the warranty, because the new owner was not the original owner. And because my friend listed the vehicle as having a warranty, he got sued & had to end up paying for to have the alternator replaced. Could the new owner have sued the dealer? Probably, but it was easier for them to sue my friend. Could my friend have fought it & won? Again, probably, but it would have cost more to do that than to pay for the repair. So... when I list this bike as having 'no warranty', I mean that I personally am not giving you a warranty on the bike. If BMW extends the original warranty provisions to you, the subsequent owner, then great. But if they don't, I am not going to be liable for any issues that develop down the line. As a final word on the condition of the bike... it runs perfectly right now with no known issues. The inital 1500 mile service & thorttle body sync was conducted by the local BMW dealer here, and there were no issues. I ride the bike at least 25 miles each week, and everything works as advertised. I hope this explains my position, and the issue. Thanks again for your time.
