Vehicle Detail
1966 FORD MUSTANG COUPE OVERVIEW / DESCRIPTION Exterior color is "Emberglo" with a white vinyl top. Interior color is "Emberglo and Parchment" The vehicle is equipped with a 289 cubic inch V8 engine with a 2-barrel carb. The transmission is an automatic (cruise-o-matic). Vehicle is outfitted with original or reproduction parts licensed by Ford Motor Company. It is completely stock with the exception of the following: Wheels and tires, Radio and speakers, Alarm. CONDITION This is where you will leave 99% of the vehicles far behind. Condition is a #2 on the 1-5 scale as utilized by Old Car Price Guide. All areas of this vehicle are visually pleasing including exterior, interior, engine compartment and trunk. This is NOT a "twenty-footer." Meaning, while it has very minor flaws (as all vehicles do) they are hard to find even under close scrutiny. The car is always garaged and covered with a car cover. ROAD TEST The car rides magnificently with a tight suspension and steering. Although it is a 2 barrel it offers excellent response and get up and go power. The mufflers have a perfect tone as they will let everyone know the car has some muscle without aggravating the neighbors or passengers. Local police have given me the thumbs-up when I pull up next to them. Brakes are new. WHEELS TIRES Cragar SS wheels all around. Rear 14x7, Front 14x6. Tires BF Goodrich Radial T/A. Rear 245/60/14, Front 195/60/14. The wheels and tires fit within the wheel well. Plenty of tread on all four tires. The car has rear air shocks which allow adjustment. INTERIOR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT "Pony" interior looks sharp and vibrant. The carpet while, not having any rips or tears is somewhat faded. The reproduction floor mats really make up for this as they cover a significant amount of carpet area. The aftermarket radio/cassette palyer is very nice and has good powerful sound. No cutting or damage of any kind as this radio was designed to fit with no modification. There is an after market center console called a "Humphugger Cruiser Console". This is a must if you drive the car frequently. Perfectly formatted to fit over the gear shift lever, it is also very functional with 2 cup holders, center compartment and change tray. It is easily removed for car shows, no tools it just lifts right out. I think it looks so good I leave it in all the time. Most of the chrome handles and plates have been replaced with new reproduction parts. RALLY-PAC How about this dealer installed option. It is a reproduction, but looks authentic with its clock and tach. This alone will run you $400 alone without installation! ENGINE COMPARTMENT How many times do you see a car for sale that looks great but you open the hood and ugh! Not here. The engine is as clean as the rest of the car. Repro ignition wires, distributor cap, coil, windshield washer bag, radiator cap and battery cover. This car had a 2 row radiator and 4 blade fan that was not up to snuff. I replaced it with a 4-row radiator, 6 blade fan and fan shroud. It still looks original. Decals and stickers are correct. The battery is hooked up to a Battery Tender when stored so the battery is in great shape. TRUNK Go ahead and open this up. A very clean trunk with repro mat and spare tire cover. Although you can't see it, a brand new repro jack is under the spare tire with the lug nut wrench. DOCUMENTATION I have all paperwork of repairs, purchases, etc that goes back 3 owners to approx. 1991. FLAWS The car has 2 problems which I categorize as very minor. One is mechanical and one is visual. Actually they are both "visual" but let me explain. This car only gets about 300 miles a year on the road for the last decade or so. This means it is doing a lot of sitting. This has resulted in the transmission seals getting brittle in several areas that allow some tranny fluid to seep out. I have had this checked by two competent local mechanics. The verdict is there is absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission's internal functions. Further if it was their own car they would not repair it to stop the leak. You will easily concur after driving that it shifts nicely and quietly. Technically to stop the leak the seals will need to be replaced. This is an expensive proposition and I chose not to undertake this just so I could remove a floor pan with some spots of tranny fluid on it. I just add 1/2 qt of fluid every year and keep an oil pan under the car when parked. The second problem can be seen in the last two pics I have downloaded. There is a small chip (smaller than a dime) on the upper left corner of the trunk lid. The photo shows a close-up of this but looks worse than it actually is. At car shows I have the trunk open and all eyes immediately go to the trunk interior area and the gleaming chrome. No one has ever commented to me about this. The trunk lid can easily be removed and repainted but I have not done so because I was afraid the color would not match the rest of the car.
