Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a very nice example of a two owner 1978 VW Bay window bus from Southern California. We are only the second registered owner of this wonderful Bay window that has spent her entire life in sunny Southern California. In fact more than thirty years in the dry climate of the San Fernando Valley. We purchased her for our daughter. Our oldest son drives a 1976 BUS and our daughter wanted one like his but she can’t seem to figure out a clutch so we are now selling her to what we hope will be a good home that will appreciate her as much as we do.Our garage kept 1978 Volkswagen Bus is very original. In fact she still wears her original issue blue and yellow California license plates. The license plates alone are in fantastic condition and look strange in a sea of white California plates most often seen today. We also have thirty years of California registration renewal certificates from the state of California to support her pedigree! She has current California Registration and the plates are good until October 2011. We believe based on the records she just went over on the odometer for the 1st time. Like we mentioned before, she spent over thirty years in the San Fernando Valley and she was sold new by Leo Payne Volkswagen in Canoga Park within the west end of the San Fernando Valley. The color of our 1978 California Type II is (L13A) Dakota Beige upper with (P82Z) Achat Braun lower. When we acquired her from the original owner she was free of any rust holes typically found on these VW vans and that includes clean floor boards, nose, jack points and battery trays simply no rust holes at all. She was still wearing her original paint but after thirty years her rust free body’s paint was very thin so we elected to give her a new finish! We also had the front and rear windows removed prior to paint and installed new front and rear rubber. All the glass is original OEM VW/Audi. MIRROR finish surely applies to our Bay window so check out the pictures and we have lots more upon request. She is simply stunning and she turns heads everywhere we take her!!!! She has more than a mirror reflection you can actually tell the colors of things in her reflection, simply amazing! The interior is all original and still has the original horse hair padding in good condition. The front front kick panels are new. She is a seven passenger model. There are minor interior imperfections after thirty years but none of the interior is sagging so it truly shows that it was garaged many years of her life. She is also equipped with a fully functional sunroof with zero leaks. The headliner in clean but does have minor flaws. Please take a look at the pictures of the interior. The dash is stunning and free of cracks simply amazing. She also is equipped with the option delete of no rear front seat dividers so a tall person can actually recline the seats up front. I am 6 ft 4 inch and it is easy for me to be comfortable driving this VW opposed to our son's that has the rear seat post or dividers. All seven seat belts are present and they all work correctly. We also just had her serviced here in San Diego. She is thirty two years old and it was recommended to do the following and we just completed all the recommended repairs including: New Fuel Filler rubber hose, replaced all fuel lines and clamps, fuel filter, fuel injector seals, one fuel injector, intake manifold boot & gaskets and engine vacuum lines. We replaced the engine ground strap and engine rubber seal, replace shift coupler and front shift bushing, distributor cap, wires and plugs, new starter, new battery cables and ignition. She has solid 140 compression in all four cylinders. She is equipped with four matching 195/75 R14 radial tires with eighty percent tread life left. Our wonderful Baywindow drives great and has excellent performance. I believe she could use an alignment because she does wonder occasionally especially in strong cross winds. The suspension on our garaged kept 1978 Bay window feels good but a new set of shocks would be recommended over next two years. Our wonderful Bay window drives down the highway effortlessly cruising at 65 to 70 all day long. The transmission shifts correctly and she neither pops out of gear or grinds at all! She also comes with a thick file of service records from the original owner along with the VW service booklet that she was delivered with off the VW dealer showroom The new owner will again get a truly exceptional non restored drivers quality 1978 Volkswagen Bay window 7 passenger bus. Our VW bus is not a trailer queen, she is simply an exceptional super clean Bay window that turns heads as we drive her or when she is parked in town. We get constant comments from all sorts of folks on how stunning she looks or constant grins and thumbs up gestures while driving. Our VW Bus truly demonstrates "Pride of Ownership” and we sincerely hope the winning bidder will take the same pride we did in her. Truly exceptional.
