Vehicle Detail
This 1972 Mach 1 is painted a beautiful Cyber Gray Metallic with polished clearcoat. On the side is a black metallic GT-style side stripe with "Mach 1" in reverse print. The body features a custom, one-of-a-kind, '69 Shelby-style rear end, with a reproduction Shelby taillight panel molded in. It looks like it was built that way by Ford, and the fully functional center exhaust setup looks and fits perfect, too. Even the factory rear bumper will fit perfectly. The body is smooth and straight. This is NOT a 'bondo-buggy'; all rust was removed and replaced with either factory or reproduction sheetmetal, including the wheelwells, quarter panels, passenger fender, doors, radiator support, parts of the inner fender apron, trunk floor and floor pans. This Mach 1 also comes with original documentation, including the original bill of sale and identi-plate. I am the second owner and it has a clean title. Body: Fully media-blasted in and out, new windshield and rear glass, moldings and weatherstripping. Taillight panel was replaced with a custom-molded reproduction '69 Shelby panel and the lower valence panel was customized with reproduction Shelby center-exhaust setup (from Tony Branda) and '69 backup lights. Global West subframe connectors were welded in and the welds were then smoothed. This Mach 1 also comes with factory front spoiler and rear wing (not reproductions), factory-style hood twist-locks, and factory dual racing mirrors. Engine: 351c, custom hydraulic roller cam, "Aussie" high compression heads (featuring 2v-sized ports with 4v-style quench chambers and screw-in studs) for excellent low- and mid-range power, 4-bolt mains, torque-plate honed, ARP bolts, Harland Sharp roller rockers, Ferrea valves, TFS pushrods, Weiand X-Celerator intake, high-volume Canton oil pan, Ford Powertrain Applications ceramic-coated headers, Be-Cool aluminum radiator and Classic Auto Air A/C system with Sanden compressor. Drivetrain: Tremec heavy-duty 3550 5-speed with CDC "Mach 1" shifter, Hayes clutch, McLeod scattershield, Currie 3.70:1 Detroit Locker differential, Currie high-performance axles with race-length studs, and (2) 18x9 Enkei RP03 lightweight wheels. Suspension: TCP tubular A-arms, Dr. Gas variable rate front springs, Mustangs Plus mid-eye 4.5 leaf rear springs, Edelbrock AIS shocks, high-performance Lee Manufacturing-rebuilt quick-ratio power steering box and pump, Mustangs Plus 1 1/8" front and 7/8" rear swaybars, 13" Baer Track Plus 4-wheel disc brakes with parking brake, braided steel brake lines. Interior: Lizardskin heat and sound insulating spray on roof and floor, Quiet Ride roof insulation kit, new black headliner, SCAT Procar front seats. The engine, suspension, swaybars, differential and rear wheels are all installed. The clutch setup still needs sorting (if I was keeping the car I'd go with a hydraulic throwout bearing) so the trans and shifter isn't installed yet. The engine accessories (a/c, ps pump, etc) haven't been installed yet, but I do have the brackets, pumps and alternator. The interior also needs installing, including dash vents and dash panels, carpet and door panels. Major things that still need to be bought are 2 more wheels, the front grill, driveshaft, carpet, door and rear-seat side panels. I've set a low reserve on this car, way below the value of the parts that come with it (not to mention the body work and paint). Please feel free to email me with any questions you have. I have hundreds of high resolution digital pictures showing the work done on this Mach 1 over the past few years.
