Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a 1973 Spitfire. This is a great project car. I bought this car several years back and up to a short time ago it always started and ran fine; great weekend car. I had just rebuilt the carburetor. Then it developed a major leak in the master brake cylinder and it stared to fix it, but never got around to finish the job. The paint damage around the leak has been repaired, and the pedal mounts have been removed, cleaned and repainted. As far as I know, it would not take a lot of work to get it running again; all that needs to be done to get it back on the road is either rebuild or get a new master cylinder, re-attach some pedal linkages, charge up the battery and some fresh gas. It has not been started in a least a year or more so it may also need a little tuning. The engine, transmission, drive train, steering, suspension, and even the brakes themselves were all in fine working order when the master cylinder leak occurred. The top has had some patching, and while it goes up and folds down, it will eventually need to be replaced. Both the boot for the top and the tonneau cover are in great shape and the zipper on the cover works fine. The trunk has the original spare cover and tool kit (and a spare). The tires are fairly new and in good shape. When I stared working on the brakes, I put it up on blocks to protect the tires. Most of what you see in the interior as “gray” is dust and not faded black. The driver’s seat needs a new cover and foam. The hood has some “dings” in the front, and there is a dent in the left rear fender (see pictures). There is some rust out in the rocker panels. The window cranks work and all glass in fine. The passenger door only opens from the inside, but both doors shut and lock. The odometer reads 37000+ miles but works erratically so there is more mileage on then that (I estimate 50,000); the speedometer works fine. This car was originally blue, but the previous owner painted it red. All electrical items were working fine when last I drove it. You also get the car cover and a complete set of two different shop manuals with most of the page in plastic page protectors. Email any questions and I will try to answer as soon as I can. Obviously it will need to be towed or trailered.
