Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my beloved 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo. I've owned this car for approximately 8 years. The original owner was a race car driver and did some upgrades to the car like steel braided brake hoses, manual boost controller, suspension bushings, carbon fiber shift knob, etc. In 2008, i spent over $6000 on some mechanical needs. I have the reciepts. These included new headlight motors, new thermo time switch, new starter, brake job all around, timing belt, tensioner, cold start injector, water pump, and an overall tuning with new spark plugs, etc. This car has also had the rear quarter windows resealed which is a known issue for these cars. Prior to 2008, the car sat outside for about 2 years. It was driven on and off during that time, but not garaged. This caused the clear coat to start peeling and some interior degradation. The leather for the most part is in good condition for the age of the vehicle, but if you look closely at the photos you will notice some wear and that some of the pieces have shrunk exposing a little of the dashboard. The headliner needs to be replaced. Mechanically, the car is in very good shape. The engine fires up first try every time and runs great. Transmission is in great shape and shifts smoothly. Brakes are still new and working great. Car stops straight every time. The exhaust is loud and the car is a blast to drive. Even with the peeling clear coat, I believe this car gets more attention than my Lotus Elise. On to the bad stuff.... The headlight control unit burned out and I have not taken the time to get a new one. A rebuilt unit is $60 and easy to install (same part # as a fiero believe it or not). The passenger window does not operate and I have not diagnosed the reason. The driver window is slow and does not go completely down. The horn and stereo do not work. I believe that power cable for the stereo was disconnected at some point. The air conditioning system has lost its charge and does not cool the air, but the system is intact. The car is missing one trim panel in the engine compartment on the driver side (see photos) and the fan switch is missing the cover. Unfortunately I do not have time to look into these small issues and I need to sell the car. With a little TLC and a nice paint job, this would be a great car. Feel free to ask questions. I've tried to describe the car to the best of my ability but the car is being sold as-is. Remember that this is a 1988 vehicle. Please bid accordingly.
