Vehicle Detail
This is a 1973 International Harvester Scout II half-cab. This is the model with a pickup cab and a 5-foot bed. Cab top is removeable so truck can be driven like a convertible (full-length soft tops are available from several vendors). Vehicle was originally built as a 2WD, but was converted to 4WD at a later date. Vehicle runs and can be driven, but requres some electrical work (mainly on the lights/turn signals) and should have the power steering box and rag joint replaced before driving long-distance (has a slight wander to the steering). It's about $200 for a rebuilt power steering box, last time I checked. Body is a refurbished 1979 body tub (truck was frame-off rebuilt in 2000). Some body damage on driver's side from a glancing, low-speed encounter with a small tree, but door still opens, closes, and latches & window still cranks up and down (body shop repairable, and new body panels are available). Some undercarriage rust. Needs new exhaust (stainless exhaust available but I have not had a chance to install it). Vehicle has the following accessories/features: - Air conditioning (uses R12/freon, but could be converted by a shop) - 2-1/2" Rancho lift - 23 channel CB/AM/FM/cassette radio - custom upholstered bucket seats with center console - EXTREMELY RARE factory bed shell (these are more common for the 118" wheelbase Terra pickups made 1976-1980). An identical one was used in the 4-Wheeler magazine series "Project: Tonto" 1995-1996. Needs a new hinge on the liftgate (common piano hinge), but fiberglass is OK. Bolted to bed rails with stainless bolts. I have screens for the windows but haven't put them in. - 345 International Harvester V-8 engine. This is the same engine IHC used in school buses, dump trucks, and other medium-heavy haulers! - Borg-Warner T18 4-speed manual transmission - Dana 20 2-speed transfer case - Dana 44 front and rear differentials with 3.54:1 gears and Pow-R-Lok rear limited slip - custom stainless steel brake lines with DOT 5 silicone brake fluid (WILL NOT ABSORB WATER!) - Holley 2-barrel manual choke carb - 35 gallon gas tank - 31" x 10.5" tires My dad and I no longer have the time, money, or energy to work on our Scouts any more, so we're getting rid of them. This vehicle is being stored at my parents' place in Charlevoix, Michigan (113 miles away from my house), so winning bidder should contact me so we can arrange to have me meet you there to pick it up. LOTS of extra parts available - just ask! This vehicle is PICK UP ONLY. I am not a dealer, and I do not deliver. Happy bidding!
