Vehicle Detail
A recent brush with prostate cancer and the subsequent surgery has made me realize that there are better things I want to be doing with my retirement than messing around in the garage with my collection of 'old' sports cars. So I have decided to cull the collection and sell 4 of my 8 cars and replace them with one new(er) car. Up for sale will be a 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, this 1987 Porsche 930 Coupe, a race prepared 1973 Lotus Europa TC Special and a 1987 pre-litigation Westfield (Lotus) 7. All photographs taken 10/29/10 Porsche 930 (911 Turbo) 1987 Vin# WP0JB093XHS050352. I bought this car in October 2006 with 58k miles on it. I am actually the third owner, I originally bought the car through my company in 2006 and then sold it to myself in 2008. Apart from regular maintenance, I have done very little to it - it is in excellent original overall condition. It is not concours but is a good, honest well-maintained, basically stock car. I had the front wheel bearings and front brake pads replaced at 59k and a new brake master cylinder fitted at the same time (the original wouldn't prime after the calipers were replaced). Last year I fitted new braided Beru spark plug wires and plugs. I have recently done an oil & filter change and fitted new wiper blades. The paint is original and very good, although the white doesn't seem to take much of a shine despite being regularly waxed. There is one very small, almost unnoticeable ding in the lip of the right rear fender and a few (stone) chips on the front of the car. I fitted new black stone guards on the rear fenders last summer. It has the small front air scoops in place of the forward side lights, one for the oil cooler, the other just for show (I have the lights). It also has euro side markers, euro rears with amber indicators, euro rear fog lamp, PIAA lamps in the front fog lights and Silver Stars in the headlamps. The interior is in excellent condition in navy blue leather. There is a small split in the lower LH bolster on the driver's seat (see photo). I was told it has been there for many years and it has certainly not got worse in the time of my ownership - I suspect it would be an easy repair for a professional leather shop. There were fitted covers on the seats when I bought it - I will throw them in the trunk. It has upgraded mats and a Weltmeister short shift kit installed. The car has an upgraded 500 watt Blaupunkt (Munchen) system with a 10 disc changer in the trunk. There are twin Blau amps under the passenger seat and a raised rear deck with subwoofers - professionally done but I believe reversible if not wanted. The odometer stopped working at about 60k so I sent it to North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock Co. (very highly recommended) for overhaul and repair. I installed an speedometer from a 911 until I got around to re-installing the original earlier this year, that is why the odometer shows about 4,000 miles less than the mileage I have declared. (Also the fresh paint on the speedo needle looks darker than those in the other instruments.) The engine has had conservative mods, no internal work. It has GHL stainless headers with heat exchangers, a Powerhaus 3" dual outlet muffler and a Kokeln turbo and intercooler. Still running stock boost, never over-boosted. I am told it is fast for 930, when that turbo kicks in at 2,800 to 3,000 rpm it really flies - and it sounds incredible. A previous owner removed the air pump. I wish I could say it has no leaks, but it does drop a little oil especially after a spirited run. It has the 4 speed transmission, basically in fine condition but if you are clumsy and rush the change, you can beat the synchro on a 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 3rd shifts. Maybe one time in ten the solenoid on the starter fails to pull in the contacts adequately to energize the motor. It usually fires right up on the next try. Something to bear in mind though. It cost me about $120 for a replacement starter when I had the same problem on my 911 a couple of years back. **Update on the starter: The one time in ten has worsened over the last week to nine times in ten. So I have ordered a new starter and will fit it as soon as it comes in - probably before this auction ends.** **Car is in the shop having the new starter installed . Will be ready noon 10/6/10, just before the auction ends.** The air conditioning blows ice cold air. The a/c was always marginal on these cars - especially in the South where I live. This one has been upgraded with a Kuehl rear condenser. I had the R12 system recharged with 'Envirosafe' refrigerant when I first bought the car, it is very effective (way better than 134A), cheap and most important - readily available. I usually shoot one can in a year (takes 2 mins and costs $7) to maintain its efficacy (the hoses are not of the barrier type and so lose refrigerant slowly - this is in line with what the manual says). The heater blowers are sometimes a bit noisy after periods of no use. The heater (automatic temperature control) worked ok when I last tried it but it was rarely used here in Georgia. The passenger side electric window has stopped operating, it might be a switch problem (common), might be the motor (less common). I have not had time to trouble-shoot. Both windows were a big sluggish going up and down in the cold of the winter. Probably due to drag on the felt window channels. I am told a shot of silicon spray will fix it. The tires are Kumho Ecsta Supras with about 40%/fronts, 20%/R tread remaining, on factory Fuchs rims with colored crest center caps, no kerb rash. A Weltmeister camber bar is fitted across the front shock towers. It has a full tool kit and spare wheel inflator, all keys and manual. I have a small collection of spares and maintenance items (belts, relays, hoses, touch-up paint etc.) that I'll put in the trunk. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
