Vehicle Detail

A recent brush with prostate cancer and the subsequent surgery has made me realize that there are better things I want to be doing with my retirement than messing around in the garage with my collection of 'old' sports cars. So I have decided to cull the collection and sell 4 of my 8 cars and replace them with one new(er) car. Up for sale will be this 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, a 1987 Porsche 930 Coupe, a race prepared 1973 Lotus Europa TC Special and a 1987 pre-litigation Westfield (Lotus) 7. All photographs taken 9/28/10 Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Porsche 911 Carrera 1986 Vin# WP0AB091XGS120140 I bought this car in July 2005, I drove it about 50 miles and then took it off the road to restore. I put it back on the road about a year later and since then have driven it only about 2,000 miles - the subsequent purchase of a Porsche 930 pushed it to the back of the garage. It has a limited-slip differential. Work completed to date: All trim, rubber & glass removed, body stripped to bare metal Removal of corrosion base of rh ‘B’ pillar, replacement r/r. fender fitted. New black paint (original color). (Now has some water spotting, which should easily buff out). New badges All new rubbers & seals – doors, windows, hood and trunk, bumpers & rockers New rear rubber bumpers & license plate lights New front chin spoiler New front windscreen w/antenna (the original broke when being re-fitted) New Euro style Bosch H4 headlamps w/chrome rings New turn signal/headlamp switch New tail lights & lenses Black aluminum floorboards New 4 piece carpet set New leather door panels New inside door lock controls MOMO ‘Competition’ steering wheel w/’Porsche crest’ horn push New bush - top bearing steering column Bridgestone SO3 tires, (approx. 80% tread remaining on fronts, 40% rears). Re-finished Fuchs wheels, no kerb rash! Colored Porsche crest center caps. New black lug nuts New Bilstein HD shocks front & rear New rotors (Zimmerman cross-drilled, cadmium plated) F&R New stainless flexible brake lines F&R New hard brake lines – 2 front & 2 rear calipers to couplers Factory re-manufactured ATE calipers F&R New Mintex brake pads and wear sensors F&R New front wheel bearings and seals New battery (July 2010). New (factory re-built) Bosch SR68X starter motor Reinforced engine support bar w/new fasteners & lots of anti-sieze paste New engine & transmission mounts WEVO shifter, black billet lever WEVO PSJ gearshift coupler SSI heat exchanger/ headers Dansk stainless 2 in 2 out muffler modified to 1 out (sounds great, no droning), can be returned to 2 out. New O2 sensor Steve Wong SSI/6850 rpm/93 octane chip. New (factory re-built) Bosch alternator New 11 blade fan & outer pulley New Behru spark plug wires New Bosch distributor cap & rotor New NGK BPR6ES spark plugs New backdated oil lines , engine to thermostat New Elephant Racing finned supply & return oil lines t/stat to front cooler New front oil cooler with shield Black perf. leather seats, (driver’s electric) All instruments refaced & refurbished by N. Hollywood Speedometer Co. High intensity white LED instrument light conversion- fantastic at night! New ‘backdated’ oil temp gauge & sender (Numbers not bars) New oil pressure sender Total spent on new parts, approximately $11,250. I was about to install a Rennaire new A/C system using new barrier hoses, Rennaire Pro-cooler & evaporator, Sanden compressor & new front condenser. It will use 134a refrigerant and I am told to expect 34 degree air! I have all the parts (cost $1,250). This package is not included in the sale but is available at less than my cost to purchaser if wanted (otherwise it goes on eBay separately). Currently there is no a/c compressor fitted. The interior is very presentable, about a 6 or 7/10, definitely not concours but pretty good for a well-used 25 year old car. Original glued-in carpet is a bit tired, but there are 4 newish footwell mats. Mat with ‘Porsche’ logo on folded-down rear seats has faded from black to blue. There is a small ‘spider’ crack on the top of the dash, not visible from driver’s seat, only from outside the car looking in through windscreen. The leather seats have no cracks or tears but the leather is a bit dry, could use some nourishing with a proprietary leather dressing. I think a new carpet set and a bit of 'elbow-grease' will transform this interior to a 9/10. Engine had major rebuild at 120k by a previous owner, new Ps & Cs, new exhaust guides, new clutch. Pulls strongly. Good oil pressure. No leaks or drips. No rattles, knocks or noise. Usual puff of blue smoke on start-up after standing over night and sometimes when idling (guides/seals). Uses very little oil (< 1 quart/2k miles). Runs cool – 180 deg h’way, 210 deg max in traffic. Just adjusted the valve clearances, checked head nuts, fitted new spark-plugs, air and fuel filters. I would suggest that at some time in the future new valve guides and stem seals should be installed to fix the start-up smoke. Current mileage is approx. 180k (although the speedometer odometer reads 68K having been previously installed in my 930 for a while before I returned it to stock). The oil level gauge is labeled 'Boost" as it housed a boost gauge when installed in my 930, the needle does indicate the correct level. The tachometer also houses a voltmeter - extremely useful! Car drives great and sounds great, feels tight, runs straight and true, no rattles or looseness. Transmission is fine, the Wevo shifter transforms shifting – although, as with all Porsche transmissions of this era, you have to ensure the clutch is completely dis-engaged and shift deliberately without snatching the change. The transmission was flushed and filled with Swepco 201 fluid. Needs: Backdated heater ducts (to suit SSI heat exchangers - have new flapper boxes and hi-temp hoses ready to fit.) Never needed the heater in Georgia! Front ventilation fan not working . Washers (windscreen & headlamps) & Rear window wiper not working. Passenger door electric lock actuator broken, have replacement ready to install The electric clock stops when ambient temp drops to under about 70 degrees, probably needs cleaning (old, sticky lubricant). I didn’t want to cut the new door pads for speakers, but the rear speakers work. I removed the radio and fitted a blanking plate (prefer to listen to the sound of the engine!) but it is included, only takes a minute to fit.
