Vehicle Detail
This is a rare, 1968 model, tall grill Mercedes-Benz 250SE/Coupe. Originally purchased in May 1968 from Kumpf Motors in Denver by former Metropolitan Opera Soprano, Louise Hunter Windsor, who was married to Popular Mechanics magazine publisher, H.H. Windsor, Jr. This all-original automobile has remained in the family after Mrs. Windsor's death in 1981. Mrs. Windsor enjoyed fine automobiles and this Mercedes is equipped with every option except the sunroof. A four-speed automatic transmission with the shift on the column, power windows, front-seat folding armrests, rare front-center seat cushion, original working Becker AM/FM radio, and Kuhlmeister Air Conditioning unit. The vehicle has been routinely serviced with factory parts as needed. The rear hydro-suspension unit was replaced with a new, factory unit approximately six years ago. What this car needs: A good home with someone who is willing to complete minor restoration work to make it perfect. The original paint is faded in areas and there are a few minor dings in the body. The lower rocker panels below each door are rust perforated and need replacement. The area behind the left rear wheel inside the trunk is also perforated and needs repair/replacement. Other than those areas, the body and chassis are solid and rust-free. On the inside, the front seat upholstery should be replaced as the driver's seat leather is cracked. The backseat is in perfect condition as are the carpeted areas and leather trim. The wood trim on the dash is solid with only the varnish finish showing cracks. Some of the window weather stripping should be replaced. The left rear tail light lens should be replaced. What is in great shape: Mechanically, the vehicle is very strong. The engines starts immediately and runs well, the transmission upshifts and downshifts on command; the steering and brakes work as expected. The whitewall tires are new within the past four years (replacing a set from 1982). The electric windows work. The Kuhlmeister AC unit needs recharging. The original Becker radio works as does the dash clock. The chrome trim on this car is in excellent shape! All of the original paperwork comes with this car: original bill of sale, owner's manuals, parts explosion book, etc. As mentioned above, this car has remained in the family and has only had two owner's since new. Any parts that have been accumulated over the years will also go with the vehicle. The car is currently garaged in Ohio and may be picked up or shipped at buyer's expense on a carrier of their choosing.
