Vehicle Detail
This car is being relisted because the previous "buyer" did not pay. Please only bid if you're serious - this car is a good, honest little car that is so much fun to drive and looks good. However, this is a 42 year old car and it's not perfect (if it was it would be triple the price). I'm willing to answer any question you may have and if you're local I'm more than happy to show you the car. Thanks - this cute little car deserves a nice home with a nice owner. First, I really do not want to sell this car - I really don't. However, I have been pursuaded (by my wife) to sell it simply because I have too many cars and not nearly enough garage space. My wife wants to put her car in the garage too. This particular model has been garaged all the time I have had it in my possession. The is a yellow 1968 Porsche 912. It looks great, handles amazingly well, the ride is awesome, and is deadly reliable. It starts first time every time. The body is as straight as an arrow, with no major dents or issues. The car is incredibly fun to drive and gets attention wherever I go (if you like that sort of thing, I don't actually). The most important thing to know about this car is NO RUST! It was from California and has been garaged since I have had it and never driven in the rain. However, like most cars of this era it is not perfect. Here is a list of the good and bad points. GOOD: Interior - new carpets, new dash, reconditioned steering wheel, good seats (not original (I have the original seats if you want them, but contact me first)); Wheels - the rears are genuine 15x8" Fuchs, in great condition, and worth a fair bit of coin. The fronts are reproduction Fuchs and in great shape; Shocks - new Bilsteins at each corner. The ride is awesome. Tires - brand new. Transmission - fantastic. I prefer this 901 transmission to my 911's 915. It has a short shift 5 speed transmission with very positive and direct shifting. Every gear is easily found with no grinding. Recently the shift coupler broke so I had the mechanic look at the transmission and he found nothing wrong with it. Seriously, a lovely transmission. Decent paint (not perfect as there are small chips on door edges) - paint looks very good from a distance, however; Brakes - it has 911SC brakes and are in excellent condition. Dials, switches, etc-every dial (except the clock of course), guage, and light (inside and out) works perfectly. The body is in great shape - under carriage is great too. BAD: This car does not have the original engine. The engine is a VW Type I engine - 1914cc and about 90hp. This engine has less than 10k and runs wonderfully. It also has a magnaflow muffler. Obviously the VW Type I engine is not original and the price reflects that. However, I have owned other 912s and this car actually drives and sounds better. You can drive this car anywhere with absolute reliability, decent performance, and it's cheap to repair if anything goes wrong. But, originally means something doesn't?! Clutch- mechanically this is the only concern really. The clutch is actually fine and I live in a very hilly area and doesn't slip unless you floor it up a steep hill. Even then it doesn't slip much and is very brief. The mechanic suggested it probably will need replacing in the next few thousand miles. So, clutch perfectly capable now but in the foreseable future will need attention - drive it and enjoy it for another year or two first. Rear fender flares - the car has rear steel fender flares. Obviously not original - look good though. However, at certain angles and in certain light you can just faintly see the joins - barely. Also, there are a few tiny paint bubbles on the driver's side rear fender. These minor issues cannot be photographed - I have tried. So, that's how minor they are. Bumpers- not original. The front S type bumper is fiberglass and has a flaw in the front passenger side. The bumper should be replaced for asthetic reasons. I have an OEM bumper that needs some paint but otherwise perfect. I'll include the bumper with the sale IF contacted prior to final sale. The rear bumper is also not original (but in perfect shape - although several chips in paint). I have the three piece OEM rear bumper and will also included in sale IF contacted prior to sale. Windows: The previous owner installe automatic windows, not my preference. The motors work fine but the the window regulater on the passenger side has come out of the "sprocket" and is not connected to the motor. Hence, the regulator needs to be realigned - I had my mechanic look at it and he referred me to someone here in Seattle - not a big job and if I had any talent I'd do it myself. I was going to simply replace the motor with hand winders. Summary You are bidding on a rust free, rattle free 912 that is a joy to drive. Based on the fact the engine is non-original there is no reserve on this vehicle. You can enjoy a lovely looking car with the knownledge that the engine will serve you for years and be cheap to run and reliable or, throw in an original 912 engine or even a VW Type 4 (as I was going to do) for more power. Please ask as many questions as you wish. I will answer every question honestly and encourage as much knowledge as possible. Inspections are fine, naturally. Transportation: The car may be picked up in person or shipped. The buyer will be solely responsible for all shipping arrangements, charges, and fees from the point of sale to the destination.
