I am selling this car for a colleague (actually he worked for me), who took an overseas assignment 1 month ago. Initially he was going to be overseas for a total 6 months and so he stored the car, now he knows he will be staying overseas for at least 2 years and maybe more. He called me and asked that I take his car out of storage for him and sell it for whatever I can get. Now, about the car. He is the one and only original owner and bought it brand new with just 20 miles on it at a Houston VW deralership. The car has been here it's entire life. He tells me this is a very rare car as they didn't make a lot of 2 dr golf's with the TDI. It has had regular maintenance/oil changes and has been under covered parking. He also mentioned he regularly got over 50mpg on long trips. The rear bumper was replaced in 2004 when someone tapped him at a light, it was pretty minor, but cracked the original bumper cover. Professionally done at a VW dealership. No other accidents or bodywork. The last thing he wanted me to mention was that the car has a fresh set of tires (matching with about 8k miles on them). I have driven the car and it runs great. Tracks straight, brakes hard, shifts easy and the TDI has unbelievable power. A/C is freezing cold and heater boiling hot. As far as I can tell, everything works fine (stereo, cruise, wipers, lights, remote door locks fob, all the electrics). Mechanically this car is excellent. The interior and exterior are both in good condition and are consistent with the age and mileage of the car. While I am not a dealer, looking through it in detail I noticed two things that I would like to share for full transparency, the headliner has two spot where it looks like it needs to be reglued (took a picture of one) and while pulling out the owners manual I noticed 1 of the 4 glove box hinges is broken (glove box still functions and locks). Otherwise everything seems to be in good nick. Original windshield is free from any chips. I've done my best to describe the condition, it really is a great and honest little car but please don't expect a new car, a new one costs 3 times this much. The inspection expired, so I just had it inspected - Texas residents are good for a year. Trying to figure out a price to sell this car at has been difficult as searching for comprable 2000-2004 Golf TDI's nationally (autotrader, Ebay, etc) did not produce a single one with this low of a mileage and many folks seemed to be asking between $10K and $14k for theirs (with more miles). Many had 2x or 3x the miles! The starting price for the auction is what a local dealer has offered me for this car. There is NO RESERVE! If you have any questions, please ask them before bidding. This is an absolute and "as is" sale.
