Vehicle Detail

1948 Nash Ambassador Custom 4 Door Slipstream Sedan - 37,823 Miles For sale is my 1948 Nash Ambassador 37,823 mile Custom sedan in very good original condition. It has been a Colorado car since new and I am it's 4th owner. I recently bought it from a friend who owned it for 35 years. Car History: - 7-28-48. Purchased new by a Denver Colorado lady. I have a copy of the original title. According to the second owner, the car was delivered with two tone paint, radio with rear speaker, spotlight, heater, back up light, fold down bed (attachment straps above rear seat have been removed), tissue box holder under dash, overdrive, chrome wheel trim rings, and chrome rear fender guard. Owner eventually developed hip problems, could no longer drive a stick shift, bought a new car with an automatic transmission, and let the Nash sit in her garage for many years. A plate under the hood shows body #8463, model #4878, Trim #T25.- 9-7-73. Purchased by an Arvada Colorado man who knew the first owner's family. Odometer read 32,709 miles when he had brake work done in November 1973. I have receipts showing he drove it approx 1000 miles and owned it for eight months.- 5 -7-74. Sold to a Lakewood Colorado friend of mine at a local car show. He drove it 4,000 miles over the next 35 years and did his own maintenance. Garaged all but two years. In the early 1980s, a drunk driver hit the left front of the car while it was parked. The left corner of the frame had to be straightened and the left front fender and bumper were replaced. At that time the entire car was given an only fair quality green roof/light tan body paint job (original color was green/light grey). The green used was the original color. My friend sold the car to me on 8-5-10 at the urging of his wife who doesn't feel he should be driving it anymore. I offered to sell it for him on EBay, but he preferred I buy it instead. The only thing I have done to it is clean the exterior, reattach a radio knob and I drove it a few miles around the neighborhood. Condition:Exterior-Being a low humidity Colorado car, I do not see any rust on the body panels. They are dent free. No chrome/metal trim is missing and it is also rust and dent free (except for minor dents on the moon hubcaps and surface rust on the chrome molding attached to the left rear vent window). The pot metal hood ornament and foot long piece of trim on each side of the hood are slightly pitted. The car was repainted 30 years ago. While presentable from 15 feet away, this was not a high quality job due to overspray on most rubber moldings, orange peel, and some runs/blisters. It has developed several paint chips and small scratches over the years.Interior-Upholstery is unique to the Ambassador Custom. The dashboard is green woodgrain and the doors and seats are beige fabric trimmed with green vinyl. Interior is all original except for the front and rear seat cushions which were redone in 1974 (both seat backrests were untouched). Upholstery is not torn and has only minor stains in places. Headliner is intact except for a tear between the rear window and right side vent window. Speedometer does not seem to be accurate. Radio works but sound is weak. Clock, spotlight, and backup light were disconnected by the second owner and were never reattached. Mechanical-Car appears to be mechanically sound. The previous owner drove it 12 miles to my home at 45 mph. Engine starts quickly for a 6 volt system. I notice no smoke from the exhaust. The mechanical valve lifter noise is pronounced. It shifts fine and the clutch is strong. The previous owner says the steering pulls somewhat to the right since he reattached the drag link which he removed to work on another component under the car. He says he had the overdrive repaired four years ago. It was recently aligned. It does not shimmy at city speeds. I have not driven it on the highway; the tires have good tread but are 26 years old. The fuel pump was removed years ago and replaced with an electric one.If I were to keep the car I would replace the tires to make it safe for highway use. I would give it a tuneup and adjust the lifters to quiet the engine down and have a specialist inspect the steering parts due to the pull to the right. No body or trim work would be needed. Car is licensed/insured and I have the title in my name. The car is an eyecatching top of the line solid, original 62 year old survivor that had seen little use. With a new paint job and minor interior work it would be an attractive car to show. With new tires and the recommended mechanical work I feel it would make an excellent, safe, reliable driver. For some reason, it attracts more attention and questions than my Avanti and 55 Imperial combined! Payment & Shipping: There is no warranty - car is sold as is. Colorado buyers will have to pay applicable CO taxes.Top bidder is required to give seller a $500 deposit within 72 hours of auctions close.
