Vehicle Detail

Here is the deal...i rescued this car a little over a year ago. it had been sitting for 12 plus years. this Vair had a previous body restoration in the early 90s by a well known and respected body man in the area but more than a decade of neglect in the woods can reverse this. however, it was still a very do-able project. so when i brought it home the first thing i did was make sure it ran. than i replaced... gas tank -$150 brake drums, cylinders, shoes, hoses and steel lines at ALL four corners -@ least $280 if not more brand new tires -$220 plus the front windshield, and while i was at it, i removed the rear and replaced and/or repaired the windshield channels where rust existed. i POR15 the channels before reinstalling both shields with 3m rope seals -$215 plus brand new exhaust system, good used head-to-exaust log tubes and good used exaust logs, good used lower exhaust shields -$275+ the park brake cable. (its new [but for a four door i think] so it is actually to long.) i cobbed it for now but it will need to be shortened. it does currently work tho. -$30 im sure theres more but i cant remeber it right now... the interior is stripped of all fabrics. the floors had a few small bad spots that i did just a quick fix on for now but are otherwise solid. the repairs could be fiberglassed over and left alone or kept as temporary as i had planned until i could afford something better. the under side is very well intack and i started to spray the whole thing down with undercoating for good measure. -$60+ i went through and got all the lights working. even the dome light. the front end is tight. i replaced a ball joint or two and it should probably have an alignment. -$40 plus ive been doing all the work myself and although im not a body man i am a professional mechanic for a living. im also an old car enthusiast so i have a passion for this stuff and generaly know what im doing. the original bucket seats were junk so i tossed those. the bottom of the rear seat i tossed as well and i have not got a replacement for it. ive aquired a bench seat for the frontfrom a vair 500 series because i like to sit next to my girl on trips. its in good shape but needs new upholstry. keep it if you wish or go back to buckets. the door panels are whole but need repair or replacing. making your own is not that difficult. i believe ive got all the weather seals brand new needed for the car. -over $100 i also have a new headliner for it. -about $60 i have a 2 into 1 intake adapter as well to convert it to a single to barrel carb. these arent cheap on ebay.- $75 (but i did rebuild the prervious carbs) it has matching offenhauser, finned aluminum valve and oil pan covers. the oil pan adds an extra 1 plus quarts. these sets are on the rare side. they have sold for more than $250 on ebay! i also have a spare engine and auto transmission. misc. other parts from the previous owner who stripped one. parts here are probably worth about $200-$400 ive since registered, inspected and insured it. so why am i selling? well i got a mile or so down the road and realized it started running bad. i brought it back to the shop and did a compression test. found i lost number 5 cylinder. i pulled the motor out and believe one or both valves for that cylinder are hanging up. at this point i decided i would just rebuild the engine and have it running like new again. so i took it all apart and got ready to rebuild it. during tear down i found an issue with the head studs. but for $90 you can get a good used block with good studs from LSCorvair parts. now it sits at my bosses shop (for now) in a truck load of pieces and ive totally run out of money, time and space. id really hate to strip and sell it piece by piece but am getting close to desperate. if you didnt want to rebuild it remember i do have another engine which is not siezed. these make great cars and have a very good following. there are large vair clubs and parts are still widely available. ive been dealing mostly with dave and marty at LS CORVAIR parts out in cali. they have great prices for used and new parts. i have a buddy who is currently setting his on an S10 frame with a 454. its gonna be sweet when its all done. it fits almost perfectly. that may be a bit drastic for most but its an option. so if your interested please contact me through ebay. please dont bid unless you intend to buy. take a good look at the pics and if you're from around the area please come take a look. there is NOT any availble shipping and i recommend a flat bed for pick up. i except paypal. a $200.00 non-refundable deposit through paypal is required within 48 hours of biddings end. you can pay all with paypal or have cash at time of pick up for remainder of bid. a bank check or money order will also be accepted but i will hold the vehicle and registration until it clears. you will be given a reciepted bill of sale and registration at time of FULL payment. you must contact me within 48 hours of win to arrange an estimated pick up time. i can hold it for a couple of weeks after win than if no contact is made it WILL BE RELISTED!!! please note that you have to not only have a flat bed for the car but also a pick-up for the extra parts. the spare motor and trans is at my house which is 11 miles from where the car is.(red hook,ny) I can arrange delivery of transmission and engine to vehicles location. shortly i will likely be moving my vair to my house where the engine is located. it has the typical rust of a car thats been sitting but nothing that isnt fixable and most panels are still available for those who would rather replace instead of repair. please ask me any and all questions you have and i will be glad to answer them as soon as possible. good luck and happy bidding! more pics may be available upon request. If you add all those new parts up its over $1500.00!!! Those are parts you wont need to buy to restore or just to get driving again. Im not even trying to recoupe that. Just want someone who has the time and ability to get her going again.
