Vehicle Detail

Up for auction to the highest bidder is a car I am selling for a friend. This is a rare 1974 El Camino with the monster 454 Big Block 4 barrel and rare 4-speed option, WITH AIR-CONDITIONING. The car was his father's vehicle until he passed away. His mother then gave the car to him over 15 years ago. The car was originally purchased by his father in New York and then brought to Iowa. The car amazingly only has 32, 341 miles and with an exception of an addition of side pipes to the exhaust it is an unmolested original car. Here is your chance to restore a classic car that has never been torn apart, missing parts and you don't have to look for the matching parts!! Although the car only has 32,341 miles it will need a total restoration, due to it sitting outside in NY. Since my friend towed it to Iowa it has been stored inside. His father had parked it several years ago when the alternator had failed. He was not a mechanic and had another vehical to drive, so the car just sat. When my friend brought it to Ia. he decided he was going to restore it for sentimental reasons. He took the Quadra Jet carburator off and was going to rebuild it, but as some of us have experienced a guys wants and desires have to be met after the needs. He has now decided that his dreams of restoring this awesome machine is beyond his means. So here is your chance to take advantage of a great opportunity! The cars frame is rock solid in every area, as the pictures will try to show. The bad news is the bed (from snow sitting on it) has rust hole spots. This caused a domino effect and ran down to the rear floor boards. I didn't see any holes in the floor boards, but they are weak and will need panels. The front floor boards are in good shape. I tried to crawl under the vehicle and take pictures, and I was actually surprised at how solid the car was. The inner wheel wells and inner rear quarters are all rock solid except the pass rear inner quarter that has a small rust hole behind the tire. There is also a rust hole behind the lower chrome strip just behind the passenger door that will need a replacement panel. I looked on line and there is a ton of restoration parts and panels sold for these Caminos, so you won't have any trouble getting replacement panels. The bumpers are in great shape for a rechrome and the grill is perfect. The glass is in good shape, but I did see some light scratches in the passenger side window. My opinion is they would probably polish out. The motor was in great running condition when parked, but I tried to turn it by hand and couldn't. It's a big block, so I don't know if it is lightly stuck or if I just don't have enough strength to turn it. If it is stuck its not bad, because the motor has always been under cover. The motor would have to be torn down when restored anyway, so this shouldn't be a concern. The great news is it never had any damage and you probably wouldn't even have to bore it with the low miles on it. The rearend is a 10 bolt limited slip, but I don't know what the ratio is. The only tag I saw was the limited slip tag, as the picture shows. I have tried to describe the car as well as I can, but it is up to you to look at the pictures and ask any questions you have. I have found that if you save a picture to your computer, it is easier to zoom in and look at details. He has asked me to put a small reserve on the vehicle, so he doesn't give it away. Bid with confidence, because it is far less then what this classic vehicle is worth to someone that wants to restore it. He will not ship, and will not be responsible if you damage the car when picked up. The car will need to be picked up at his home and trailered or towed. If you bring a trailer you will need a winch and if you decide to tow it the drive shaft is already sitting in the bed from when he towed it from NY. If you tow it you will need to bring a better set of tires as these have sat for so many years I wouldn't trust them. The winning bidder must pay a pay pal non-refundable down payment of $300 within 24 hours, and the rest of payment due in (cash only) when the car is picked up. The owner of the car is a full time police officer and doesn't have the time for tire kickers, so if you win the auction the car is yours. Its not your opportunity to come see the car and decide if you want it. Please don't bid if you don't plan to own it. This option was extra money when he ordered it and I don't think there was many of them that came with leather seats!
