Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1985 Porsche 944 Approx 135,000 miles $1000 cash ..or, see below. This car was won in a Kid Craddick radio contest by a young woman in late 1984. I bought the car from her in 2001. She told me that Princess Di had one just like it that she kept in Monaco for tooling around Europe but I’ve never checked it out. Rare automatic with every option offered in 1985. Sunroof, original Balupumct AM/FM/Shortwave radio. Leather seats (driver’s side seat needs mending,) Porsche floor mats and I’ll even toss in a Porsche shirt I bought at the dealer parts counter. Car comes with complete repair records, original owners’ manuals, complete set of factory issued shop manuals I paid 400-dollars for a few years ago, Bra, case for removable sunroof and some spare parts. I made some mods when I bought it to keep the engine temp down including a 5 blade fan from a turbo Porsche and two low temp thermostats. The car runs ¾ hot in heavy traffic when the outside temp is 100 but it does not go to “hot” as some of these cars do. The vehicle has a new inspection sticker, new registration sticker, new wiper blades and a fresh, $360 air conditioning tune up including a new AC belt and 2 lbs of R-12 Freon. It makes plenty of cold old air So why is it so cheap? The 2500-dollar automatic transmission rebuild I had done in 2007 has gone bad. The tyranny started making bad noises and then, a little later, the car would shudder when taking off in 1st gear. I drove it 30 miles home with these issues but if you buy the car do not count on making it much farther without trans work. If you have the tools and the knowledge this is a great find. If not, plan on paying for a trans rebuild and you will have a very nice, very pretty, extremely reliable sports car that gets 25 highway mpg. I was getting 22.5 commuting roundtrip 60 miles a day. The handling is absolutely amazing even by today’s standards and she loves to go 100 miles per hour, which reminds me, the tires are fair to go zooming up into the 100s you’d want new, X- rated tires.! FYI, this transmission uses the parts from VW/Audi automatics in the mid 80s so the rebuild kits are not hard to find. The manuals that come with the car show you how to fix it but you gotta have the right tools. You might want to check with some community colleges and see if a class of young wrench twisters would like to take this on as a project. Having “fixed a Porsche transmission” on their resumes might make a good impression. Hate to let this baby go. I’ve had over 50 cars in my lifetime and this one has been one of the best. I think $100 is a very fair price but if you have a dependable Japanese car with a good title and cold AC I might give you the Porsch and some cash to boot. Ken 214-906-3472
