Vehicle Detail

My husband has wanted a Porsche for years! After buying this one, he is devastated to admit he can't drive this 5 speed manual transmission easily with his artificial leg. He has much more in this car than we are asking, but there's no sense in having this car in our driveway when he can't enjoy driving it. As we understand it, there were only 2099 of this model built, and only in 1976, so it may be a rare collectable. The interior is burgundy red fabric in good condition; we think it is original, and it would look better with a good cleaning. When we bought the car, the paint was starting to peel and some rust was showing on the upper exterior and around some edges. My husband decided it needed painting. The paint job is recent, the original white, and it looks good but it wasn't a perfect job! The painter drove it home and brought it back and said it drove good. As far as we can determine, this car has been owned by at least 5 people. We recently learned that it had been stolen at one time, in California. It was recovered and the orignal VIN number was cut out or destroyed, and the California Dept. of Motor Vehicles issued a new VIN number, CA395917, which is on the title and on the car in two places. I called the CA DMV and they verified this often happens. They told me it was not a wrecked or salvage vehicle or that would be on the title, which it isn't. They also told me I could apply to the Sacramento office for more information on the car, and I was hoping to learn the original VIN number. Don't have that information yet. We were told this Porsche has "matching numbers," and the engine number is 4060199, if that has any importance to anyone. This is our first Porsche, so not experienced in lots of the terms used. We had a mechanic who happens to own an old Porsche look the car over and do whatever was needed. He replaced a transmission mount and also put in a new battery and cables. He told us it shifts good, but best not to do any "speed shifting." He also said the underneath was very clean, no rust. We purchased the car from a man who bought it from his brother in California, and drove it home to Illinois. The brother had done about $5000 worth of work on the car, and we have some of those receipts. According to what we were told, the car has a Sony CD player and Bursh exhaust, new tires, shocks, starter and brakes. The engine was rebuilt in California at 194,925 miles, and the speedometer now shows 201,993. I can take more photos. If anyone wants specific ones, just ask. We'll try to answer any questions. The car is being sold "as is" and we don't want to do any more work on it. The driver's door makes a click sound when opened, and there is an oil leak. Our mechanic says it is minor, and it seems to show up more right after a drive, and a few drops while it is just parked. We were hoping to get $8600 for this car, but my husband just wants it off our driveway! There is NO RESERVE here, so no one will lose out who bids. Buyer is responsible for shipping or picking up the car, and we will help with any information as much as possible.
