Vehicle Detail

This vehicle was bought new ($16,898 before fees & tax) by my father for my mother and while owned by them was garage-kept for the first 10 years. It was never used off-road to date. In 2004, I purchased it from him to keep it in the family but wasn't ready to register and use it, so it sat in my driveway until I registered it in 2009. Besides putting in a new battery, I did nothing to it before taking it to inspection, and it passed right through. The 4x4 was used on snowy days and functions better than any other 4WD we've ever owned. The transmission and 4WD with auto-locking hubs work perfectly. The air conditioner blows nice and cold, the heater works very well, but the defrosters require a little tweaking to get it right. The body has three minor visible rust spots as seen in pictures: one is in the back on the left between the bumper and body under the rear door; and the other two are in the upper most part of the rear wheel wells on each side. There is a square plate with a bolt through it that may attach the rear seat belts, and it's this area that the rust is around. The paint is peeling on the roof and front hood also seen in pictures. The rear bumper end caps are scuffed up and show stress from parking attempts. The driver's door was replaced due to an ugly dent. The interior is in good condition. The headliner has three cuts as seen in pictures. The driver's window crank knob is missing, however you can still lower and raise the window. The inclinometer gauge (which lies between the voltage and oil pressure gauges on the dash) leaked some mysterious fluid and no longer works as designed. One tire is brand new, and the other three need replacing due to dry rot. The spare tire blew out while it was mounted on the door... yes, you read that correctly. The rim never touched the ground. In mid-June, there was a sporadic noise coming from the front of the engine. A few days later, the water pump started leaking. I purchased a water pump and looked in the repair manual and had to admit that it was more work than I personally was up to doing. It involves removing the radiator, all the pulleys, the pulley tensioners, the air condition compressor but not the freon, the timing belt covers, and while you're there the timing belt and all the work associated with reinstalling that belt correctly. We received estimates ranging from $600 - $1,000 to replace the pump and all the belts. The wet spot you see in the pictures is anti-freeze leaking from the water pump. *New water pump in box and manual are included in the sale. Prior to the water pump problem, the original oil pressure gauge at times showed readings lower than expected. The few people that lifted the hood thought that the gauge was malfunctioning. The gauge was never replaced or tested. While checking into the water pump, we were told that it would be only a little more effort to change the oil pump while having the water pump replaced. The engine has never smoked or burned oil, and the car has always passed inspection the first time through. If you're looking for a sought after SUV and are either a good garage mechanic or have the resources to correct these issues, this is a great vehicle being offered at a low price with no reserve. There was an auction that ended a few weeks ago for a red Raider with a new water pump that closed at just under $4000. Personal inspection is encouraged.
