Vehicle Detail

This V6 engine has recently gotten the infamous Ford loose timing chain knock due to a plastic tensioner in the engine breaking. I dropped the oil pan and found a tensioner. Sad. Engine light stays on now, no surprise there. So it is now a mechanics special. see TIMING CHAIN KIT for FORD EXPLORER V6 is only $199 on ebay My understanding is that it is a great SUV when the engine is fixed of this common problem. Plastic parts in a hot engine...what were the engineers thinking? Save 10oz on the GW? Buy it for the nice tires, P255 70R16 Goodyear Wranglers ...only have about 12000 miles on them. Or buy it for the Alpine CDA9830 Stereo with a pigtail to hook your ipod or iphone into the stereo. Or buy it as a parts car....just be warned the engine rattles and ticks and knocks (update below). Sold as is w/o warranty. I drove it to the store yesterday and it ran fine...the chain noise goes away under loading. Today I drove it and it got rough at idle and died. I think one of the chains skipped time ...so the engine can nolonger be trusted and should probably be towed away. Note: I don't hear any crashing or crunching of valves, but that's my ears. Ask questions I will post more info as I think of it. It has some damage from a side swipe on the driver side that was never fixed but never rusted, see pic. Leather interior in good condition for age. Factory radio antenna missing, after market antenna installed but doesn't look as nice. Also, 1 hubcap missing. NOTE: The timing belt tensioners on these Ford engines are plastic and break... and there are 3 of then, 2 front of engine and1 back side (as i understand it) The last time I drove it ...it started running rough and died. It will not start now. I think is skipped time. To try to drive it now could trash a fixable engine. If you are not familiar with the time and cost associated with fixing the issues of this FORD SOHC V6 engine...please don't bid. It needs to be towed away. video of the engine issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6ddtNe5oxQ&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnlsGmWhIqI&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCI49bvZIJo&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5mLp1lpQKk&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsVYAz0a3NQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbHcNfevihk&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXeABvoX0YY&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTe-efJ_DcA&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aaTZ5QyYug On Aug-11-10 at 10:34:07 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE this detail: Deposit of US $100.00 within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close. If deposit not made... the ebay contract is void ...and the car will be offered to the next highest bidder at 48 hours.
