Vehicle Detail
I've known this car since I was 7-years-old when my dad bought it brand new. It was his “Sunday driver,” only accumulating 38k miles in 20 years (garaged, otherwise). When I decided to move across the country to Lake Tahoe, he decided to pass the seldom-driven classic on to me. The past two years the Supra has served as my ultra reliable daily commuter, bringing the odometer to 75k miles. This car is a blast to drive and I REALLY do not want to sell it. Alas, I decided to purchase a vehicle more practical for hauling camera gear, bikes and outdoor gear into wild places of the country. If I had some expendable income I'd move the Supra back to the east coast with me and keep it in the garage for some fun driving on a sunny day. Here's a little rundown of the Supra's current condition: The awesome: -Excellent condition, both inside and out (professionally detailed today).-Interior is nearly mint. NEVER smoked in.-75k original miles (mostly highway miles, even when used as my daily commuter).-High performance tires (Goodyear Eagle GT) only about a year old.-Always starts right up and runs beautifully (see video).-A/C and heat both work (A/C compressor was replaced in 2007).-Head gasket (an inevitable issue with Supras) was replaced in 2008.-Most accessories work great (see below).-Front speakers were replaced in 2007.-Oil always changed on time.-I've been getting 27-30 mpg typically.-Spare tire has never been used.-It's an awesome car. The not-as-awesome: -I'll be right up front about the one and only significant issue: It seems to burn some oil. By my estimations, it's about a quart per 800-1000 miles, depending on the type of driving you're doing. Blue smoke is OCCASIONALLY visible from the tailpipe. Most often it's when accelerating hard. This could be a minor issue, or it could be a significant one, but the car is very much drivable. Just keep an eye on the oil level.-Interior dome lights usually don't work (this is common in Supras and instruction on fixing can be found in various Supra forums).-Low setting on the fan does not work when the setting is selected (another common Supra issue). You can easily get the low setting to work by choosing “Auto” and setting the digital thermostat.-One of the rear speakers is blown, probably just a result of being 23-years-old (same happened with the front speaker, which is why I replaced both).-Dash break light stays on (usually associated with the hand break). Brake fluid levels look good, so it's likely a bad sensor. Not a complicated or costly fix from what I understand. There would be no need to fix it, but it prevents the cruise control from working (which works flawlessly when the break light is off).-Small dent/scratch under the passenger-side door (see photo). When I was 8-years-old I was riding a wagon down the driveway and sideswiped the Supra. I let my mom take the blame for a little while, but eventually fessed up when confronted.-Small dent/scratch on one of the headlight covers (see photo). I was playing catch, solo, with a small rock (for some reason) and didn't make a clean catch when walking passed the Supra. I fessed up to that one right away.-Some fading on the rear bumper-A pair of small marks on the front bumper-The windshield has a crack starting at the base of the windshield and extending about halfway up. I got a quote of about $300 from one of those house-call auto glass places. I decided to let the buyer take care of it, or leave it cracked if he or she chooses. Video of the Supra starting this evening:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN30WbRMN-0&feature=player_embedded Feel free to ask questions about anything I may have left out. If the transaction happens in person, don't judge the tears! And don't be shocked if I start chasing the Supra down the street as you drive away. This is not going to be easy for me. The car will likely be in the San Francisco when the auction ends. I am willing to hand deliver the car within a 250 mile radius for the cost of gas plus the cost of transportation to the airport.Send me a message before bidding if this method interests you. This car is being sold AS IS.On Aug-06-10 at 08:25:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that this Supra has ANTI-LOCK BREAKS! (it was a pricey option back then). Also, I am selling this car locally and reserve the right to pull it from eBay (but I have faith in the eBay bidders!). On Aug-08-10 at 10:24:49 PDT, seller added the following information: One thing I forgot to mention: The hatchback release next to the driver's seat does not work. Probably a fairly easy fix for someone who wants to dedicate some time to it (I never felt the need; hatchback opens fine with a key). While I'm talking about the driver's seat, some exciting news: The electronic controls for the seat (forward, back, tilt, up/down, etc.) work great, as does the lumbar adjustments. All power accessories, including locks, windows, factory alarm, mirrors, etc. work great. I've been noticing the high bidders tend to be people with no eBay feedback. If you have no feedback, please contact me before bidding. I'm getting sick of the fraud perpetuated on eBay. Thanks!
