Vehicle Detail
1985 BMW 745i turbo with rare 5 speed transmission. Any and all examples of this rare combination are conversions, not factory builds. This one happens to be a correct Getrag 265 transmission from an 86 735i donor with 61k miles on it. Conversion of course includes the clutch and pedal set all of which look from the cockpit like original equipment. Original arctic (metallic) blue color with original cream/tan leather interior. Body has no rust since it lived in Colorado and California until I brought it to Boston in December 2008. No rust. Interior also has no rips, tears or wear spots. This is a four door sedan with 115k original miles (the Autocheck Report proves this out) that thinks it's a luxury sports car. Actually it is. The turbo gives it the acceleration and the suspension is classic BMW at its best. An amazingly agile and lightweight car in its class as a luxury sedan, top of the line in its day and even today. Here's what it needs: 1. the climate control system is not working. All the components are there (heater core, blower, panel behind the dash controls) but the wiring was cut by a previous owner to do God knows what, so it will need either a new wiring harness or a full wiring re-attachement. 2. Currently, when the clutch is warm, it requires a simple "toe-up" procedure to engage reverse and first. No issues with second thru fifth. This clutch is the original clutch that came with the 61k conversion and apparently is not heavy enough to handle the torque of the turbo. Included in the sale is a brand new in-the-box BMW M5 application heavy duty Sachs clutch, to be installed by the new owner. 3. probably a tune up, since it has only been driven 200 miles since purchase in Dec 2008, just to keep it running. 4. repair of a short on the line to the right rear turn signal. It is my opinion the reserve price reflects the approximate cost for these fixes. This car absolutely drives as is. With work outlined above it can be a very pleasurable daily driver. I am happy to assist with shipping pick up at this end, but soley at buyer's cost. You can read the AutoCheck report here or email me and I will be happy to send it to you.
